A few questions. I'd like to fix up my mosey tomorrow.

Yeah I admit I was very jumpy. It's just I have troubles with saving money. And I wanted to put money towards my Jeep to get a tune up. I should have waited, searched and done it the right way first. Today I'm going to change the oil and dif fluid. (haven't cracked them open yet to check. but with the miles on it it wouldn't hurt) install the blinker assembly, try to get my horns to work, trim my stock flares and mount it with double sided 3 m tape. Oh and wash her. BTW I got the job :) (toys r us seasonal)

nice! also, grab a can of brake cleaner for cleaning out the crappy nasty fluid left on the gears when you do the diffs... pop the cap off, drain fluid, hose down with brake cleaner. Keeps your new fluid from being instantly partially dirtied.

EDIT: and if you like mud a lot (you seem to), move your vent lines as high up as you can. The front axle one is already all the way up near the master cylinder and brake booster, extend the one for the rear up that far if you can, possibly do the same for the TC (I think its vent line is bolted to one of the tranny bell housing bolts, not sure)

I dont see how your going to be successful with using double sided tape to mount your flares. Theres very little surface area against the fender, espescially on the 97+ flares.

I used to run them on my 94, but ditched them when i painted the rig. If your not opposed to the older style flares they will bolt right on with some common hardware... you wont need the flare brackets. All the holes in the fender line up. This also makes it much easier to relocate the flares higher by drilling a few holes and trimming the fenders below.

Dunno about double face tape for the flares, but Loctite Power Grab double face tape works great for trim strips. I wonder how it'll handle a New England winter though.

Ive seen the 3M tape method and realize its benefits now. At rocktoberfest, I think it was hammered, ripped one off on a tree. Very similar to his post in that thread... Didnt damage anything. Clean off the old 3M, put on some new, slap the flare back on. Instead of ripping metal, breaking flares, or just making a mangled mess.

I was going to use zip ties, for easy remove/install...but I think when I re-do my flares Im going with the 3M. At least on the back. Then I wont have to bolt from the inside.

3M tape is awesome. That's what's holding my front diff cover on. Great stuff.:dunce:

I wish there was pics on the "retaining the stock flare" thread. I want to trim up my flares nicely. But got no guide to go by. Plus it's hard to hold the flare with one hand and try to position it and hold it still. I'm going to hold off until I can find pictures. The horns work now. Didn't have them grounded. And the new blinker assembly failed. It clicked off the blinker like it should but the left blink would not work. So my old assembly is in there (I have to manually unclick the blinker after a turn.)

there are threads on it, but if I were you I would just go grab a set of pre-97 flares. They are made of a softer plastic & I think they give a little better coverage. They are easy to trim & easy to mount. You can just bolt them right to the body. I use tape to hold the flare in place while I mark the holes with a pencil.

So I might as well ask here. (I'm very low on gas, maybe this will help?) Anyway I just took a ran to wawa (1 mile) and noticed my check gauge light went on. And my volt gauge is dropped (like what happens when the alt. died). Well I just replaced this alternator and I haven't been off roading or even touched a water puddle in maybe 2 weeks. So I don't know what the problem is. I just "W-40'd" my alternator and i drove it around the block. Didn't seem to come back. But I notice now when I shut the engine off I get a "clicking" noise for about 10-15 seconds. I couldn't really track down the noise as it is dark but it is definitely coming from the engine area. Runs fine and everything. Any clue?
