96 rolled cherokee death trap

14,000 posts... I sure as hell hope you helped at least ONE person. lol Post whore!

I have learned more on this forum, and working on my jeeps, than I ever expected. I am generally stuck in an office during the day, waiting for code to compile, tests to run, etc...

with all the helping other people out do you actually have time to wheel? let alone build anything? in response to your comment about the post on the other thread i had done what the other post said then asked a more specific question. your help was useless someone else posted the answer to my question instead of quoting someone elses answer
I keep 4 vehicles in mostly road worthy condition and yes, I wheel.

And no you are incorrect. The other guy then quoted my post, highlighting the parts I had already answered so you might notice.

God cannot believe I just read seven pages of this. Can we just close this and let this guy take his chances?

it's not dead till you stop being so amusingly stupid!

and yet here you still are 4 pages later on a thread you said you were leaving on page 3 way to go.

The depressing part about everything is, besides your crappy attitude, I don't really see this crapastic metal disaster being your fault. You were just edumacted poorly. There are some inviting and well mannered individuals on Pirate4x4 that you could go start over with. I'm sure they will give you a better welcome and cool-headed advice.

look my bad sorry my thread at any rate its still my Thread i was thinking about joining naxja but if all it is is people who tear down other peoples jeeps hope they die in a roll over or just want someone to bash on then that is retarded and a major waste of money
You need to understand a couple of things here.

1) You are a registered guest here. You are not a forum supporter, and you are not a club member. Don't drink all the free beer, don't pee in the pool, and keep a civil tongue in your head. And don't even think about complaining to the staff about this, it will not help your cause.

2) The folks around here have been wheeling Cherokees for a long damned time, and have a pretty good idea of what XJs are capable, and how to build them up safely. Especially for safety, I suggest that you stop typing, trying to justify yourself, go back to the start of the thread and read it again.

I'm the same way. Or at least I was when I accumulated 4,000 posts. My job doesn't allow as much web browsing time.

Like you, I've learned more on this forum than you'd believe.

We were all newbies once. Once they learn that criticism isn't always what you want to hear then they'll start doing things correctly. Live and learn.

Ya put the MJ on the back of the Deuce yet? lol

Nope, the 5 ton hasn't hauled anything yet... it's sitting in another NAXJA member's front yard with no manifolds on it, had to pull the heads and replace the head gaskets and haven't put it back together all the way yet.

im not saying i cant take the crap but if thats all you do all day then get a life. i have one i dont need you guys telling me that i should die if i roll i posted this to show people what i had done. now i regret ever even posting this its wasting to much of my time

Were not saying, you should die, but that you would die if this were to encounter a hash roll.

any ideas comments and information is very welcome

You posted this looking for feedback. You got just that.

You cant get mad at people for doing exactly what you told them to.

this is all crap you guys have ridden a dead horse 7ft into the ground.. get off it its DEAD

We will get of the horse as soon as it stops running.

one thing you need to cut the keck out of those wheel wells to make room for bigger tires and more flex :) i am very curious how this is going to turn out! keep up the work

flinchy,
I've been wheeling all of your life!!
I started with a stock YJ and built it into a class 3 crawler for the RCRocks series and last year turned to the dark side and got an XJ.
Since it was stock and I wanted to build it right. I did about 6 months of research(being a paid member) and asked lots of questions.
I didn't like all the answers but after doing more research and keeping a cool open mind I realized that the answers I didn't like were the ones I needed to build a better rig.
I've wheeled it twice since i've had it. Once stock and one after it was safe to wheel.
Though I could wheel it without fear of death or bodily harm I have decided that it would be a mistake to wheel it anymore until it is 100% complete
I do plan on competing again next year and have all winter to get it done.

I feel somewhat more stupid for reading some of the comments in this "THREAD" not just by you and your friend/mentor.
I also feel a little smarter for reading this because I realize ALL the people that you think are busting your ballz actually care about you and the safety of the people that get in the thing in its current condition. I'm glad they are speaking about the safety of this thing and know if I were in your shoes i would heed(SP?) there advise.
I realize it isn't complete and that's cool but just do yourself and all of us a favor and don't drive it!!PERIOD!!!! until it is road/ trail worthy. It isn't in its current condition and you yourself have said it is "an incomplete project"
Respect the advise and don't drive it.

Re: 96 rolled cherokee build up

Who cares if he has lockers? DOes that reduce his skill at driving? Does that mean e knows less? What the hell is your point? We should bow and grovel because you're a broke-a$$? I'm broke too, but guess what, I saved money and waited to get what I got? I didn't just hack something together and say good enough because I don't make big money. I wheeled for 4 yrs in my XJ with a BB and 30's open/open, then open/welded. Before that was a stock Trooper, and a stock Geo Tracker. Does that make me cool? Can't get much more low budget then a Geo, right?

If you're smart, do a quick search of threads started by stumpXJ, look over his work. He knows of what he speaks, and you would be wise to listen to experienced fabricators rather than mocking and arguing with them.

And realistically guys, pipe is fine to use for a cage if you just use heavy enough stuff and use some brains in the design and support systems of the cage. Steel is steel, yeah there are different grades of steels but in contrast to the variety of different grades available, 2" thick wall pipe is heavy enough. We're talking the difference between a couple pounds of tensile strength differences and a tiny bit of bend strength in contrast to the thousands of pounds of tensile strength that this stuff is capable of handling. Compare the amount of tinfoil holding up the stock roof, to the amount of steel holding this thing up if its upside down. 8 cute little tinfoil columns held a 3500lb jeep up just fine, and we're talking about 8 columns of 2" thick wall pipe holding a 2500lb thing. If you guys need to be worried about anybody, its all the cageless stock-bodied jeeps running around, not to mention the ones that take the doors off of a cageless jeep. then you're talking about a couple of tinfoil molded steel spotwelded pillars holding a jeep with an extra thousand pounds on the underbody.

Realistically, this whole thread has been completely useless so far, Caleb was asking for ideas, maybe some pics of other peoples cages, and some helpful tips.. what he got was a bunch of hotheaded idiots telling him that his first two tubes aren't going to hold up as a complete cage. It was plainly stated that this is an incomplete project. :soapbox:
He also got some guys who have a lot of experience building XJs give advice on how to make it better who he called idiots and said they can't possibly know what they're talking about because they lifted more than an inch and a half and have lockers. Seriously? Saying that one person is stupid for having lifted more than 1.5" and is going to roll makes you look like even more of a retard when you rolled at 1.5" already and the guy at 5.5" hasn't. He got advice from numerous people and when he spat in their faces, they responded in kind.

I think the big question should be what type of pipe is being used.

(This is what happens when you leave a pot half done and come back to finish it 7 hours later...)
