Your forum? It appears as if your name is not in red, indicating that you are not a paying member. As a result, this is not YOUR forum. This forum belongs to the people who PAY for it, and we pay for it because of the help we have received along the way.

You've got a mighty nice hole over there...how much deeper are you planning to go?

I don't know if this has been covered but...

It'll fold like a Taco!!!

:)

He would agree.

look my bad sorry my thread at any rate its still my Thread i was thinking about joining naxja but if all it is is people who tear down other peoples jeeps hope they die in a roll over or just want someone to bash on then that is retarded and a major waste of money

Re: 96 rolled cherokee build up

StumpXJ is this all you do tear everyone apart cause you dont like what they are doing? if you dont like it dont read it enough said! as for the pic of the tub buggy i dig and will be adding alot more tubing

No he tore you apart because he is a fabricator. You are using pipe not tube, when that shotty cage work fails and you're dead, don't say we didn't tell you so. I see guys like you all the time on here. I AM NOT a fabricator by any means but I know enough to get me by and If stump is saying you're doing it wrong, you are. Simple as that.

I still want that damn Dust-Panzilla!

Wrong. If you hadn't come out swinging, there are plenty of quality members that would assist and point you towards a safe cage build. Your mentor has led you down a dangerous and stupid path. If you were to save face, ask honest questions to LEARN the safe and smart way of building your rig, many members, including myself, would be glad to guide you towards some reading material.

Re: 96 rolled cherokee build up

im not saying i cant take the crap but if thats all you do all day then get a life. i have one i dont need you guys telling me that i should die if i roll i posted this to show people what i had done. now i regret ever even posting this its wasting to much of my time

Re: 96 rolled cherokee build up

I will personally stand behind any of the welds on this cage with my reputation.
Thats great if you have really nice welds but the welds make no difference if they are on a poorly engineered cage. Your reputation would suffer more from letting someone wheel in a rig that you built that is unsafe.

Re: 96 rolled cherokee build up

Its not like you're looking at a finished product here guys, its more complete now than it is in any of these pictures... we haven't even gotten to any gussets or supports anywhere yet. You're looking at a picture of a couple of hours worth of work into the building of a buggy thats going to have hundreds of hours in it.

Its eventually going to have tubes that run to the back corners like slant-back style, and its going to have some plates attaching the front pillars to the firewall area, and its going to have a C pillar and connecting tubes between all of the pillars...

And realistically guys, pipe is fine to use for a cage if you just use heavy enough stuff and use some brains in the design and support systems of the cage. Steel is steel, yeah there are different grades of steels but in contrast to the variety of different grades available, 2" thick wall pipe is heavy enough. We're talking the difference between a couple pounds of tensile strength differences and a tiny bit of bend strength in contrast to the thousands of pounds of tensile strength that this stuff is capable of handling. Compare the amount of tinfoil holding up the stock roof, to the amount of steel holding this thing up if its upside down. 8 cute little tinfoil columns held a 3500lb jeep up just fine, and we're talking about 8 columns of 2" thick wall pipe holding a 2500lb thing. If you guys need to be worried about anybody, its all the cageless stock-bodied jeeps running around, not to mention the ones that take the doors off of a cageless jeep. then you're talking about a couple of tinfoil molded steel spotwelded pillars holding a jeep with an extra thousand pounds on the underbody.

Realistically, this whole thread has been completely useless so far, Caleb was asking for ideas, maybe some pics of other peoples cages, and some helpful tips.. what he got was a bunch of hotheaded idiots telling him that his first two tubes aren't going to hold up as a complete cage. It was plainly stated that this is an incomplete project. :soapbox:

did you not read this post?

Sure. He has stated that he knows nothing about dimensions or characteristics of pipe and tube.

The fact that you are backing a guy who has a great deal to learn about proper cage design and you are arguing with people who have many years of fabrication experience only serves to make you look stubborn and more wrong. We are not trying to bash you or your friend ( O.K. maybe some have bashed your friend) we just want you to accept some well informed guidance and learn a lesson we all have learned, and that is listen to what the experienced folks have to say and take it to heart. Our intent is to help you learn and be safe as well as not pose any risk to others.

funny, you have problems reading posts too. Hell, in another thread I replied to, you proceeded to ask a question I had already answered IN THE PREVIOUS REPLY. Between that and your lousy attitude... I'm actually fairly glad you're not joining.

I've helped at least a thousand people on here with tech stuff for free, probably more, I'm not sure. Some of them have joined, some haven't. Between your lousy attitude and your deathtrap jeep, you won't be missed for not joining, but my bet is that you'll still hang around and leech free tech advice anyways... just not from this guy.

14,000 posts... I sure as hell hope you helped at least ONE person. lol Post whore!

with all the helping other people out do you actually have time to wheel? let alone build anything? in response to your comment about the post on the other thread i had done what the other post said then asked a more specific question. your help was useless someone else posted the answer to my question instead of quoting someone elses answer
