Hi Guys
I came across a deal today. It's a 9" rear end with richmond 4:11's a Strange spool and Moser 35 spline axles for 400.00 drum to drum!
Is this over kill for a weekend warrior wheeler ?

that is a pretty good deal, but for a "weekend warrior" you will probably hate the spool, or at least the tire wear because of it. also, I don't know if you plan to go bigger, but those look like 31s in your avatar. 35 splines is way overkill for 31s, though overkill is good :D

also depends on if 4.11s are what you want... and the width of the axle, if it's from a truck it is about 5 inches wider than stock XJ

oh, and it is most likely 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern which won't match your stock wheels

I'd like to buy it. Where is it? Got a number?

I drove with a spool for 4 years in my Plymouth Scamp. :D
Check out the prices http://www.essentiallyoffroad.com/axleslockersgears/corp14bolt.htm

I stand corrected. The 14 bolt uses the standard carrier, whereas most detroits replace the carrier. Sounds more like a lunchbox type of locker.

Good deal...

You got a great deal. Those 35 spline shafts cost $300 alone, plus shipping. HOWEVER, make sure that 9" has a nodular iron case. The standard single ribbed case will grenade on you if it's put to a lot of stress. The WAR case is good too, but the N (nodular) case is the strongest.

You're looking at about 65" in width. Doesn't stick out too much more on each side...about 2 1/2" either way.

Congrats.

It will stick out about 2 1/2 inches.....But I'll be able to run the stock wheels instead of buying new ones for the D35. I have to wait until he gets his tax money back so he can get the 14 bolt.

you sure about that :?: most Ford 9s use the larger 5 bolt pattern, though since they are custom shafts, it could be 5 on 4.5

The only way it is a 5 on 4.5 is if it is out of a mustang or lincoln. Otherwise the bolt pattern will be different.

Bolt Pattern

You'll have to check the bolt pattern.

Since they are Mosers shafts...and custom made to order...they could be either bolt pattern....depending on what the previous guy ordered.

WRONG!! I thought the same, as well as many people in the Ford section of the Pirate board, but I found an 81 F-100 that had ~65" Ford 9" with 31 spline shafts and 5 on 4.5. Apparently it was offered just a few years in the early 80s as Ford was phasing out the 9". I had so many people on the Pirate board tell me I was absolutely wrong that I took my digital camera to the Pick n Pull and took pictures, I'll email them to anyone who doubts...
