Specs:
Quick performance housing 55inches flange to flange with late model torino ends. 61" WMS-WMS
Explorer disc brakes
Currie 9+ centersection with daytona pinion support, both nodular iron
Moser 31 spline axles
Richmond gears (no crush sleve)
Detroit locker

I shaved the Housing using XJrangers thread, gained a full 2 inches over my 8.8 that was in there. I have a few more pictures of the mock-up if someone want a few more.

big bearing and 28 spline.

Have not installed it yet, I will set it up with 31 or more spline before it goes in.

28 spline is still more than enough for most of my purposes to be honest, yes it is the weaker shaft but it is still stronger than a stock jeep shaft.

Depends on what i can find. the biggest tire i plan on running is a 35. Would the 28 spline be good enough? i have 33's on stock gears with the auto. i have seen minor changes to acceleration. no change in mpg's.

Looks great, I bought a few parts from quick performance when I was building my 9 inch, they've got some good deals. I hadn't even thought of a crush sleeve eliminator until they suggested it over the phone.

Planning a 609 for the front this fall

To use the explorer disc brakes you need to use a housing from at least 1980 or newer if you are looking at truck housings. If earlier, you need to find one with torino ends. Basically, a square 3.5" x 2" flange bolt-pattern which should have the large bearing ends anyways. The explorer brakes bolt right up, though you need the spacer that currie sells for the bearing placement to be correct.

I used F100 shafts that have the 32" length I needed, with the large bearing ends and a 5 on 4.5 bp. Though they use a sealed ball-style bearing, instead of a Set 20 bearing set but are easy to find in any NAPA. But I'll change this when I build my 609 and go with a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern and 35 spline shafts this fall.

I did the 44/9 swap a year ago and I love it. The way I did it really limits the flex, but I threw in a mini-spool out back (28 spline big bearing) so it don't worry me none. I'm running stock 3.50 gearing and 33's. If I could've afforded a re-gear when I did the swap I would've done it, but it works fine for me.
