9 inch swap questions

Ok so im tooling around with the idea of swapping in a 9er. Thing is i won't have any cash for upgrades for it. Is it possible to swap in a 9 inch with 3.55's and run it? or would it be better to upgrade it first?

I swapped my 9" in and left it with the stock 3.55 gears. I'll regear when I've got the time and money.

I had to buy a conversion u-joint to go from 1430-1410. It was only $12, generic, $20 for a Dana one. other than that, I just used everything else from my Jeep.

I think I found the box from when I upgraded mine to a 9 and d44. The conversion that i have is a precision u-joint (federal-mogul) 353 from napa if it is the right box. the box also has a p/n: 1908122-A Will snap some pics tomorrow.

I used the 3.55 gears for a while too.

If you have metal cutting and welding equipment, take the afternoon to shave it before you put it in, you'll appreciate it a lot the first time you go wheeling with it.

Mine actually came with a 1310 yoke from the factory, but the aftermarket centersection that I use now has a 1350 yoke on it. I bought a 1310-1350 conversion joint from www.highangledriveline.com <-- Jess can handle all your driveshaft needs.

that bad huh?

what size tires are you running?

Whats up with the coil in the first pic? And thanks for all the help guys... ill be looking for a 9 here pretty soon.(as soon as i have some extra cash) I got the perches and u bolt plates for free so thats why i was wanting to know about this. What did you all have to do for brakes. did the brake line from the 9 go right into stock location?

That "coil" looks to be an air line for his locker to me. :dunno:

Not for a locker, I run a spool. It's actually my vent for the axle. The 1/4" nylon air line is stupid cheap and coils up so I don't have a bunch of hose all over the place. I use it for the front too.

Just looked at your build thread. noticed it wasn't a coil. DOH! lol, But awesome build. im likin it so far.

big bearing and 28 spline.

Have not installed it yet, I will set it up with 31 or more spline before it goes in.

28 spline is still more than enough for most of my purposes to be honest, yes it is the weaker shaft but it is still stronger than a stock jeep shaft.
