'84 XJ Build

I had started a build thread on Pirate4x4, but am tired of the BS over there and then I found this fourm. It way more inviting here.

I bought this with a 350/TH350/205 & D44/12-bolt already swapped in it.

I'll be stripping everything off it and redoing everything. The prior owner did some real shaddy fabrication.

I'm keeping the D44 and 12-bolt for now. I'll either be doing a D300 with 4:1 kit or a 203/D300 doubler.

So far I've gutted the interior, and put on the 38's to get measurements for lowing and cutting. I've also start stripping down the motor to get finial measurements and then pull it.

Started with:

38.5's

Almost ready to pull the drive-train

yep that's some sketch fab alright! Welcome.

Got any plans to take it a little lower? It looks like it's basically sky-high to clear 38.5s without cutting the fenders.

Don't know anything about the 12 bolt, but I sure as hell wouldn't run 38.5s on a 44! I'd go with smaller tires or a bigger axle... preferably the latter since you can probably sell the 44 for enough to cover a d60 build if you play your cards right, no idea what you can sell the 12 bolt for.

The height it is at now is how I bought it, not how it will be when I am done. I have the 38s on to measure for cutting. I plan on lowering it around 4 inches, if not more.

Thanks for the input on the axles. I think I'll be fine, I'm not real hard on my stuff anyways.

I'd lower it about 10 inches. lol

16" lifts are for the guys with flat-bill hats.

Where's the thread on Pirate? I always enjoy reading what stupid people have to say.

id lower it to 5-6" of lift, dont be afraid to trim, the axle combo you have will be marginal with the tires you have i would see if you could trade em for some decent 37's, and the coment about a d44 covering a 60 build, haha maybee if you build a completley stock 60

That is about where I will be once I lower 4 inches. I'm not scared, there will be plenty cut.

great start. cant wait to see it develop and where you take it from here. what are your plans for the steering?

Thanks. It will be all heim joints w/DOM. I'm building the cross-over steering arm and will put studs in and then weld it in.

If I lower it 10 inches it will be almost stock. It only has 10-11 inches of lift now. I deleted the thread on PBB. Yeah I enjoy reading their BS too, but not when it on my build thread.

Looks like a great place to put coilovers or air shocks if you ask me... if you decide to get rid of the leafs at some point that is.

Welcom aboard! Nice start! My first XJ was an 84 2 door. I beat her to death and now she is recycled. GL!
