7/12 *Snake Lake Tail*

I just replaced all my Heims and gave the jeep a DIY alignment so everything is a go to see how it works.

This has taken a long time to dial in the new axels but I have learned so much and had a lot of help from people here. Now I am fully ready to take it out and see if I have checked all the boxes or not.

I want to do a day trip and run Snake Lake trail backwards, as in do it clockwise, and climb out of Snake Lake if I can.

I would like to meet up at Bassett about 10:30am and leave from there to start at Gold Lake.

Anyone interested in coming along. Should be a great time in some beautiful back country and we will pass by a few lakes where we can stop and lunch.

I was there last weekend with my crawler, its gotten pretty harry at the top. I honestly have no idea how a moderate xj will handle it but xj's always surprise me so who knows. You'll want at least one locker and skinny pedal if you wanna go up it, two preferred. I have dual cases 4.7 geared rear case and am fully locked and still gave a seasoned wheeler a butt pucker cresting the top of snake lake.

I only got pics at the middle of snake lake hill none of the hard shit.

Have fun guys

man that looks so fun mike.

Thank you Mike for the report and pictures. Camping at Gold Lake is very special. Was it hard to get the spot?

Yeah, I've put out doing this trail twice now with not much interest from anyone. I have only gone down the trail, counter clockwise, and never up the trail but it is a fun, scenic run with a few beautiful lakes to stop and swim in.

I am moving the run to this Sunday, 7/13, because I need to make a few tweaks to my rig on Saturday so if anyone is up for a day on the Sierras let me know.

Sorry Tim, new baby + new house = no time right now

It's cool Josh. You can never spend too much time with your kids.

Going out and stretching my new axels out a little.

See you at Sierra Fest.

I'll post pictures when I get back.

Yeah it was THE spot to have on the lake and i got it by riding my dirtbike over to the camp the first morning we were there to see if the campers were packing up and they were. I was the first one on the scene and we totally lucked out. Tye wheelers/campers next to us saud they were waiting 6 years for that spot so they were a little bitter. Lol

Yeah, we got the spot the first time we camped there. We went with friends and they got there the day before we did and the people that were there were pulling away as they drove up.

Wide beachfront with a smooth transition of pebbles from shore to water. You really got lucky, that's great!

Yeah its my favorite spot to camp in all of cali. We had jetskis and boats there to that we just beached right there at our site. We got the same spot last year as well on another lucky whim.

Two years in a row? I'm going with you from now on. :chef:

Back from Gold Lake and there were five or six camping pots on the water that were open. A guy already had the pebble beach one but still nice one open for the taking.

Put the rig in four wheel drive on the trail and I could not steer from passage over to driver with out moving forward or backwards to do so. The power steering pump was screaming and trying to maneuver around corners was impossible with out backing up first to straighten up the wheels.

Took it out of four wheel drive an unlocked the hubs and it steered fine. At first I thought that the stabilizer bracket was hanging up on the front skid plate so I removed it. It still did not steer right so unlocking the hubs was the only way to free up the front end so I could steer.

I guess I need a front end alignment to keep the wheels from fighting each other. My driveway one is not goo enough I guess.

Easy fix, then try to get out up there in two Sundays, 7/27, for another run to see if everything is working correctly. So nice up there even if I didn't get to run the trail.

Have you ever had a locker in the front? It is deffinately harder to turn while the front is locked. However it should not be impossible. My guess is your pump or box is on its way out. There are some small mods you can do at the pump to get a bit more turning force.
If the pump was screaming was it the belt screaming or the pump itself.
