5.7L HEMI dimensions?

Yeah, That's John B's XJ. Very meticulous and it turned out super clean. Hot rod lane mentioned earlier supplied the air cleaner. The website is a little hard on the eyes. If you send in for the catalog it has just about everything in it...both GM and Chrysler.

The cheapest way to go is SBC no doubt, though I'm a mopar guy at heart. Anyone know if the 4.7L block size is the same as the 5.7L. If this is the case I got a guy at work here with one in his Grand I can grab measurements from. I think the 5.7L HEMI width is going to be the most critical at the heads.
 
I looked at one today, but didn't have time to measure it. The widest point looks to be the manifolds. The 4.7 and the 5.7 share the same bellhousing size and shape, but that's where it ends. I believe the 4.7 is longer, but not as wide. It is taller due to the SOHC's and where the 5.7 is still a push rod V-8, but they are almost horizontal from the cam to the rockers. That's where it gets it's width from.
 
As for if the XJ can handle a motor with more power? If you are concerned with the pseudo-frame stuff and the motor mount attachment areas, don't bother. The XJ is actually pretty robust in what it can handle. I am pretty much in the upper power band for a I6 and do not doubt I am close to what that Hemi will act like in the engine bay. I have not found any areas that are developing cracks or anything that looks like stress from torque (paint breaking away at seams, discoloration, stretch, ect...) but then again I have not gone 10k miles yet. I have been stomping the gas alot, which would really give some twist.
The Hemi should be just fine and compliment the lightweight Xj well really.
 
If you've got the jingle to drop on a Hemi you could just go a different route. http://www.hesco.us/shop.asp?action=cat&catID=7550 These make good power, drop right back in, hook up to all of the stock stuff, and will likely cost less. The Hemi swap is a cool idea, but is it worth it? BTW, you're the only one who can answer that.:us:
