Here's some links for the Dusy Ershim trail around the Fresno, CA area:

Looks like a very nice trail, but because of its length we should plan a 3 day wheeling trip, it's app. 30 miles long! :)

Troy

Well Troy I would love to run Dusey this year, but I will be in TX. I have to be there from 15 July - 10 Oct. I of course miss out on the Swamp Lake run, a Sierra Chapter Favorite, ya know the one that is way too hardcore for you! :D

I do plan on going to the Con in late June. other than that, if the trails open up early enough I my get some local trail time. With the way the snow has been, I bet most of the trails by me won't be open until August.

Nothing is to hardcore for me. :laugh3: You sure have some nice trails by your place. I want to do the Dusy trail in late summer then. Why are in TX, job related? You are missing out on some great wheeling my friend. :)

Thats what I was thinking, but I figured you'ld chime in with better knowledge than I about it. I am hoping to head down there for some snow fun end of april though so thats good :D

Naw, it not job related, it more like an XJ fast, need to get away from wheeling for awhile. I figured TX would be a good place to go. That way I wouldn't have to think about wheeling.

I think you should give it a try, I think it would do you some real good. In regards to you, I think at least a year to cleanse yourself. Just think when you come back you'll be ready for JV.

End of April on Bald Mtn sounds good. I'll check the schedule and see if I can work that in. You know I'll have to get some wheeling in before my pilgrimage to TX.

I had 25 years or more of repression living in the Midwest. I cannot wheel enough. I would do this almost 24/7 if my bills were getting paid. :)

Where is Dusy trail?? what is the elevation of the trail is it one we could run early in the season??? .. i woud be down for running the con and fordyce..... probably not back to back but we should try to plan some..
Also i want to run that trial in sonora... i am drawing a blank on the name right know but maybe we can plan that too

The Dusy-Ershim Trail is east of Shaver Lake, which is in the Sierra's east of Fresno. The trail runs for roughly 33 miles between Courtright Resevoir at the south end to Kaiser Pass at the north end, and is a 300 ft wide corridor that splits the John Muir Wilderness and the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness. The trail tops out at just over 10,000 ft and is over 9500 ft for much of it's length. The Forest Service won't open the trail until the snow is gone, so it's a slightly different time each year, but rarely before July.

It's a beautiful trail, with nice lakes to camp by. But, because of it's length it takes a few days to run it comfortably and each rig should be properly maintained and prepared. It's a long way to go for parts. It should be on everyone's "must do" list, but many of us don't run it every year because it's so long.

Anyone else want to plan a trip? I really want to run the Dusy trail this summer, who has run it and is willing to go this summer? Otherwise we have the normal almost informal weekly weekend Rubicon/Fordyce runs with our non-xj buddies. Can we get a big NAXJA run to one or each of these trails? I wouldn't mind hosting in May-July sometime to either of them. When do you guys want to run them?

Troy

Troy, you need to contact your Sierra chapter leaders to see what runs, if any, are being planned. Otherwise you just need to plan a run and go. There's no sense asking over and over again. If those of us who regularly plan runs wanted to go we'd already be planning a trip and talking about it. If you're not up to planning to go on your own, then you just have to be patient and see what ends up getting planned.

Myself, I'm not going to run Dusy this year, nor the Rubicon. Swamp Lake will be my Sierra Chapter trip this summer, which is July 15-17. I'm also planning a weekend trip to Pismo on May 21-22. So, there's two opportunities for you.

Richard, I was hoping to get the Sierra Chapter leaders to think about what runs we could do. Since you say that you will not be able to make these Sierra Chapter runs, can we come on your Socal runs? :laugh3:

I do plan to make multiple trips to the Rubicon and Fordyce this summer, but I thought it was great how we had the Rubicon/Fordyce/Barrett Lake trip and was hoping we could do the same or just a Rubicon weekend then a Fordyce weekend. I do have other people that I wheel with, but I would like to have a least a few NAXJA only runs. I have been patient, but things aren't getting planned and we are 25% into 2005. So far we have a Hollister trip planned in a few weeks 4/16 and a Swamp trip, Pismo etc. planned. I know that the snow will take awhile to melt and that after reading your post, I see how it will take awhile for the snow to mealt on the Dusy trail due to its high elevation. I was just trying to see if we could coordinate our busy schedules to see if we can get a large # out on the Rubicon, Fordyce and other trails during the summer. We are always coming and going from work and vacation especially during the summertime and some times are better than others,so when in the summer is best for most of us? Should we avoid the Rubicon during the 4th of July weekend for example due to huge crowds, how about Memorial Day?

I said enough, sorry. I do plan to throw up some trail dates out in the near future as more informal runs, but I really wanted to see dates put on our calendar as NAXJA formal runs. :gag:
