38's....

So I have an 8.25 in my garage, How much better would that be?

Or what if i went waggy 44/44?

I'm getting the 38's for free so thats why I'm askin. If i go easy on it,don't get the tires off the ground or give it alot of skinny pedal i should be kind of ok, right? as long as i have something better than a 35?

I nominate myelf.....

Why am I building a sleeved, trussed, 30 spline, Ox locked D30 for 35's when I could have just slapped on some 38's on the stock axle and been good to go. What a tard I am!!!

you are a tard, you shouldnt be wasting money building a 30. Sorry, even though its possible to run 35s on a dana 30, its not a good idea. my 2 cents

I run 37" irocks on the trail with 8psi on a hp30 and 8.25 4.56s and two lunch box lockers with no real problems 1 axle joint in 5 wheeling trips.
oh ya and its a daily driver with the 35" mtrs on it . just don't drive like a bone head. my 2 cents

why not? add a truss, alloy shafts and heavy duty diff cover and the 30 will be fine for 35's

polishing a terd

just moving the weak link around

in comparison, im running 35's on 44 front / 44 rear. Chromoly shafts, truss, ctm ujoints, warn premiums, detroits, and indestructible diff covers. At least I wont be afraid to do a full throttle assault or beat on it if need be.

Since no one else will come out & say it. This a really dumb idea. Might be OK for mallcrawling, but I wouldn't trust it 4 wheeling.

And this is why: I have a dana 60 rear in my garage but the wifey wont let me regear it due to funds. So I took her to the trail this weekend w/ my 8" lift on 38's with stock axles (D35 rear and D30 front). To make a long story short I broke the pinion and had to take the rear drive shaft out just to get off the trail. on the way to work the next morning the front broke (no lockers or anything upgraded). And today I put the dana 60 in her WJ and made her take it to the shop for gears. WOOT! but anyway, I knew it was going to break soon and i wasn't driving hard AT ALL on the trail. It actually broke coming off a 4' bank....

That´s exactly the way I´m thinking/going. 8.8 in the rear, will be getting the Super 88 kit, and a front D44 (Currie or Dynatrac)

running 38.5's with 5.13's, the speedo is correct, i need a little more horsepower to get up and go, but in low gear it's rediculous, the tires just dont want to stop turning.

good luck with the long road ahead of you in making it work correctly to run those tires.

and like many have said before, if i could do it all over again, i would have made a buggy.

thats good news, thats what i'll be running in the D60

I have a friend with dual 9 inch axles and 4.88's. He can break the tires loose on pavement (barely...but he can do it) and he is running 39.5" Iroks.

I'm swapping out my axles for a HPD30/Ford 8.8 combo with 4.88's. I am going to run 38.5 MT Baja Claws on it. The 8.8 is a LSD. I got a great deal on the axles and gear sets all together NIB for $300. I'm searching for a killer deal on D60's at the moment. I think I found a set. If the guy lets me have them they are $125 each. I'll probably truss the 8.8 and the D30 for now. I'm going to lift the XJ from 4.5" to 10" and I have custom built long arms. I'll make sure to take pics of the setup when I get it all together and start the process.

Should be a fun build.
