37's on a stock dana30

is that pushing the boundary's of the D30?
Its best to upgrade to D44 from a waggy or D30 Alloys / chromoly shafts?

Im not hard on my junk but sometimes I "bump it"..

What do you all think?

If you alloy it, truss it, and put a nice diff cover on it, it will hold up just fine. Jusst dont go deeper then 4.56 gears. I wheel with a guy that runs the same exact set up and he has not problems. And rocks in Colorado arnt small. You can do it, just be smart and safe about it

There also 37 MTR's the new ones, which arnt light eather!

well finally tracked down what dads 37" krawlers have done to his axles
1 blown front ring and pinion (4.88 cryoed gears)
and rear twisted to hell chromo d44 rear axle shaft
and possible rear rubi locker spider gear failure...

so hes in the process of a d44 front and 9" rear. :)

So Bmanga haunts me on NAXJA and on my Board! wow. The honor of getting his advice twice a day! lol
Like you say.. it all depends on how you wheel your junk and how you beef it up. The money spent beefing up the D30: Chromo axle shalfs: $600, Truss: $300, Cryoed Gears: $500 ... you think about it .. why not just get a Dana 60 front and a 9" or 60 rear for the same price?
The D60 hangs low, but then again.. you can put 40's and run the trails like Glenn!

So whats better up front? a D60 or D44?

^ this will be your issue next
:shhh: sssshhhh don't say that.....I already took one H20 joint out of the dshaft to put in a "fuse"......

Exactly why I'm doing overkill "stock" like axles in my buggy build instead of building out the spyder nine housing I have. It'll be a 2K lbs, Honda rear/Mid engine powered buggy running CUCV D60 front/14B rear. I will put stock 9" cuts into one of the housings for the wife's TJ. The XJ is not getting built out anymore and why I decided to put the Alloy stuff in it.....yes I have 2 rigs on the trails with a buggy being built..... Call me insane in the membrane.

As for honor the honor is all mine. I try to help anyone at anytime with logic and past personal experiences.....at least I hope I am helping not trying to boast or brag by any means sir!........bottom line is that's how I roll. As for what board you're referencing I'm at a lost. I'm on a lot of boards and avatar's and screen names run together if they're actually the same in other places.....Sorry if I'm redundant, let me know what board and screen name so I can "Plan accordingly" sir. :) :peace:

my friend runs 37s on stock, wheels it pretty hard, hasn't broke anything yet...

I think a 60 is too much for 37's..... Build a good 44 or a 609...... I'm not a fan of "stock" 60/14b and to do a 60 right it costs near as much as doing something that's more purpose built for your application

And I don't know where your getting 300 for a truss and 500 for cryo gears.... Bobby long does them for 60 something bucks

I agree Doug.....it's overkill but leads to bigger tires with less upgrades....I also should've mentioned l'll be running 40's or 42's...so it's a different scenario in my case.......to much pumpkin on a 14 bolt without shaving it for 37's IMO. Shaving can make it a 10,12 or 14 bolt with clearance close to a D44..... I like the concept of a 609 or some other work around for the ujoints on a 44...... problem is custom this and that = higher $$$ so just another variable in the equation.....Dang math haunts us again!

just cause joe blow does it for $50 .. i m just guesstimating on the prices..
250x2 sets of gears roughly..
