37's on a stock dana30

I m not hard on the jeep.. hell i still have all my original axle ujoints on the rubicon and its been a lot of hard trails. Im a firm believer in picking the right lines and not doing any hammer downs!
Im happy with the 35s but i got tons of room under the xj.. was just contemplating the idea of filling it up!

Right line doesn't always get it. Some times you do need to bump it a little. I was in Harlan last weekend ant it was wet and muddy going slow all the time meant going nowhere.

Unless of course you want to winch everywhere.

fwiw I have 37's on my D44 and break alloys occasionally. It makes me nervous enough.

Hey Mark, meant to ask you... You long arm that thing or get yourself some drop brackets yet? Weren't you at one time running like 8" of lift on short arms in the stock brackets? I just saw that picture and got curious.

was thinking about the same thing... bet it rides like a log wagon.

LOL .. Nope im determined to wheel it as is. Short arms and all.
No surprisingly enough it drives really good. No death wobble or high speed wobbles. It flexes good too. I m not planning on doing a long arm for it.
No drop brackets either. Im against it. SHORT ARMS ALL THE WAY! :skull2:

ran alloys and a front cover without a truss on HEAVY beadlocks and 35's and ran it hard, never broke anything other than unit bearings. Stock shafts busted a few times and stock ujoints blew up.

+1.

I wheel mine hard as hell. Stock big joint shafts with tack welded 760x spicer joints. OEM 4.10 gears and aussie. Has held up better than most D44 rigs I've been out with. I run heavy 35's on heavy bead locks, and lots of wheel speed!

thats for an 8.8 .. read the post!

So now we're on 38's with a trussed d30 with chromo's? lol SO it IS possible to run 37s! lol

Install them, wheel the p!ss out of it and you'll figure it out real quick!:firedevil :repair:

Install them, baby it like your at the mall and you may never have issues. :anon:

The real answer is, it depends. There are many variables, like driving style, what's in the HP D30's and what type of trails you wheel on etc. Since the later D30's have the same size ujoints as the D44's there's common breaking points for both axles. I run 35's on my trussed, C gussetted, locked HP D30 with bead locks and 5 psi. When I was at 3.55 gears I could spin em, crawl em, crank em etc. all day and never bust a ujoint. I installed 4.88's and pop a ujoint every time out. I'm putting Chromo shafts/ujoints in to hopefully push the fuse back to the driveshafts. Hopefully I won't find a new week link like in the ring/pinion.

So with 37's again it all depends on your variables.
