Greg,

Have you broken 4340 stubs? I managed to break a Spicer 35 spline stub, but I'm pretty sure it was actually a bearing failure. I'm now running one 4340 stub, probably gonna step up to all 4340's soon(still running neck down inners).

Asked the Twisted Cusotm boys how those were working and they said they are jerky and nor really all that smooth. Interesting to see how they work out for ya.

So I went over to CTM today. Turns out they are only about 12 miles from my house. It is some operation. Several large CNC machines hard at work on chunks of 300M. Jack is a super nice guy and spent 45 min with me showing off all kinds of cool stuff and talking about the new stub shafts. Paul, Richard and myself now have some on order. These will allow for 44 degree turn. Nice and sharp. He had one on hand and it really is a piece of art work. Unfortunately it will be approximately 8 weeks before I have one to take pics of.
He also showed off some new 1550 front stuff that makes 60's look like an old 260 size joint. Don't even want to think how much that stuff runs, and some 40 spline inners for his own rig. Hard to imagine how big this stuff is till you hold it in your hand.

Just thought I'd post this for those of us who don't spend a lot of time thinking about steel alloys:

300M is a low alloy, vacuum melted, steel of very high strength. Essentially it is a modified AISI 4340 steel with silicon, vanadium and slightly greater carbon and molybdenum content than 4340. 300M has a very good combination of strength (280 to 305 ksi), toughness, fatigue strength and good ductility. It is a through hardening alloy.

I'm assuming you have to remove the knuckle to install those things..............though I guess it doesn't matter much since you should never have to replace them.

Nice.

I've been eyeing Sunray's 1550 junk for a few months now. Everytime I do my wallet slaps me like a box of rocks. Maybe because that's what's in it.

Any hints on the knuckles? Sunray goes out of my league because everything is new and I wouldn't feel right if I didn't have a few pasture parts on it.

Now lugie, the onlything that would make your posts more advanced if you got pics of you peeing on their bling parts. :D

lets see, I peed on your teraflex long arm...it didn't help.

I peed on okie terry's tire...it looked pretty.

still wnat to know if greg broke alloys up front.

That's why it didn't break. I had a mexican tell me once that it will harden metal just like curing leather, but you have to drink the good stuff.

I bet Bighardon did break one. I've come to the conclusion that if he can't break it with the skinny peddle he'll find someway to damage so it does. That way he can justify the extreme bling. Fawk I'm jealous.

Well I work in Weatherford about 5 miles from Lances outfit over at Sunray. If you guys have any questions or want to see some more detailed pics of the 1610 :) and 1550 send me a pm and we can exchange numbers.

yes, One full set of 4340's on the short side and the stub on the other side. This past weekend I ripped about 5" of the teeth on the HP60 ring gear, the shafts didn't break and niether did the lockright. In high gear, 6300 rpms, verticle wall, 400hp LS1, something had to give I guess...but hey, I was the only one to even attempt the line and I made it...it was just expensive. I wouldn't be worried about 4340 stuff in your front end.

Parts are under way. Stopped in today for a look.
the start of 8 nice stubs

Here is a 40 spline next to the 33 spline stuff

Oh Gary, Jack had a good idea. We were talking about how we would know when your rig finaly made it to the trailhead. All we have to do now is listen
for your birf's to come clicking up the trail.:kissyou:

Wow!! Awesome looking stuff.

Which two are mine? :)

Hey guys it's not to late, a little magic machining on the inside and you could still have Jack turn them into 33 spline birf's. :D
