I have a 2001 XJ with a 6.5" rough country lift on tons. the bushings on my Rough Country lift just aren't holding up to the flex and weight of these axles. I work with a guy who builds custom air bag suspensions for S-10's and other low riding vehicles. I will plumb it so I will have control of all 4 wheels. Who's got some thoughts???:dunno:

i don't know what kinda trails or what not you run but a friend of mine has a sand rail with air bags on the rear and when he runs it hard and fast the air heats up and the rear bags get tighter and he says it hard to adjust them when they get like that to make it handle good

I can see how that would be an issue with a sandrail running 90 over the dunes.. But if my XJ gets to 70 on the highway it's a miracle. I'm a slow wheeler, I prefer to see how slow I can climb rocks or plow through mud. I'm trying to stay out of the mud though, my U-joints don't like it at all...

I used to wheel with a guy who had an Airock suspension kit. Airbags on all 4 corners with D60s on his TJ. No problems that I knew, everyone always loved when he would flip a few buttons and make his Jeep lean to one side, or could adjust the height of his vehicle at will.

Yeah that's what I was thinking.... I just want to get people's thoughts on the air bags. I am so glad that within 10 minutes of posting this I have 2 responses already!

BEGSTER!!!!! holy crap! Your name is Mark right??? I met you at the CCJC!!!! I think your on my facebook too! I have the Green 2001 XJ! I don't know how to put up a picture on here and it won't let me put up a custom avatar picture.

My friend has a bagged full size chevy. It's cool, rides good and does all kind of stuff. I've thought of doing the same thing your talking about.

Post updates!!!

Your problem is that RC joints are pure garbage, well just about everything ive owned from them has been shitty quality. My 2 sets of swaybar discos, my trackbar.

If you threw in a set of good joints like, a currie joint, or ballistic fab, youd be much better off.

there was a guy i saw in peterson's running a 4 link rear with bags on a blazer, prob the best thing for the rear

for the front i would probably do a 3 link w/ panhard, it works well for coilovers and airshocks so why not bags

That I can definitly agree with! My panhard bar was crap about 3 months after the build was complete. One of my leafspring's has slid out from the bottom on the drivers side. My upper control arms are getting slack. The build is only a year old.

Not sure I'd do airbags for offroading, but the same suspension link setup should work I would think. I'd probably put air shocks or coilovers in before I did airbags... talking out my ass here since I've never done either, but fox 2" airshocks seem to be around $230 a corner and airbags seem to be around $150 to $400 per corner depending on who you buy em from... and that's before air compressors, controls, etc. I can't see wanting to try and steer, brake, throttle, and on top of that control 4 different airbags while wheeling.

It's a neat idea, but I think it's gonna be more hassle than it is worth.

My uncle has a rock buggy with air cylinders on each corner and it is great !! Rides really nice plus he can lower the front and lift the rear for hill climbs or water falls or the other way for goin back down. He has 6 valves the front, back and each corner. If you have the chance I would say do it! I know I would. Plus I wouldn't worry to much about the air heating or fading like a shock, they use the same thing on semis with no issues of long constant use.

I have a three link using an Nth Degree Stinger with a track bar on mine and it works really well with the AiRock. I've been running this on my XJ for more than 6 years now and still love it. Having control over my ride height and center of gravity beats any fixed height system hands down. Don't worry about popping an air bag, as long as you don't have any sharp components rubbing on them they are pretty rugged. The biggest problem I've had is keeping the sanden compressors happy, I think I've got that problem solved now that it is configured with a return oil line. In 6 years I've replaced maybe 3 height sensors and the coalescing filter. Having a reliable and robust air system is key to the functioning of the system, but there are simple work arounds in case of failure. The only change I would make is to put the TNT long arm kit on the front. Steve at Off Road Only is intimately familiar with my setup, if you have any questions give him a call.

Hope this helps.
