Need a little trivia here... did Jeep offer a 'limited,' 'classic,' or 'country' model in 4x4 2-door?

I'd like to find a 87-98 4x4 with a lot of options (except a moonroof...)

Are there any significant differences between 2 & 4 door models? (I know the doors are longer, the front seats tilt forward and the rear glass is longer...) other than that, it's the same drivetrain yes?

Drive train and even wheelbase are the same ... identical. As to what models were available in 2-door, I'll have to look back at some sales brochures, but I think they probably offered all trim levels in 2-door. However, I expect they didn't sell many of the top models that way.

Same drive train....

Some say the 4 door is stiffer b/c of the extra pillar. I think only Se and Sport 2d were produced. But I could be mistaken. This is what NADA had to say:

Select a Model & Trim

Cherokee-6 Cyl.-4WD
Station Wagon 2D SE
Station Wagon 2D SE (2WD)
Station Wagon 2D Sport
Station Wagon 2D Sport (2WD)

HTH! You still got my spares? LOL!

Oh yea that is from the 97 Model year.

Woody:

Of the four 2Drs I've owned, three were purchased new ('87, '92, '96) I don't recall the trim "packages" that were offered, but I will tell you this - all individual options were available. So, it was possible to get pretty much anything you wanted in a 2Dr, you just had to wait longer for it to get built and pay more (since you were buying some options individually. not as part of a package). Because of the hassle factor, I'd guess that fully loaded 2drs, while not impossible, are probably rare.

I remember when I bought the '96 (Sport) - I toyed with the idea of getting leather seats, but the quoted price was too much. Actually, the dealer was more bothered when I deleted the roof rack and rear wiper assembly, rather than arranging for extra items. What was really annoying with the '92 was that the full instrument package came with the automatic, the 5 speed came with a big old gas gauge in place of the tach. Figure the reasoning behind that one???

Mechanically and physically they are identical - other than the door size and rear quarter glass.

Rumor has it that it was much harder to get individual options added to 97+ 2Drs and you had to live with the offered packages.

Thanks folks

My sis-in-law has a 97-8-9? 2 door SE (4 cyl 2wd :barf: ) but other than air, it's pretty stripped down.

I like the monochrome looks of the new-style classic & sport model, and like the fake wood interior trim in the old country models...

I guess one could swap in the various upgrade stuff from other models, but it'd be less hassle to find one already set up. I'd prefer a 91+ with the HO motor and 23 spline tcase though, and it must have AC that works.

i know they offered a limited and country model. not sure about a classic. the classic is a joke IMHO, my friend has a 96 classic with power windows and locks and all that jazz but its a 5spd and the damn thing didnt even come with a tach!

my first xj was an 84 2dr "cheif" it had all the bells and whistles, like a heater that sometimes worked, a 2.8 v6 that hardly ever worked, and a huge "Cherokee Chief" on the sides and back. hahahha

My 2dr is a 1987 4.0 Laredo. No AC, but a block heater is nice in the cold. Besides nobody needs AC up here in New England.
There is also a 2door 4.0 Chief in the area.

1996 4.0HO Sport 2wd, stock

I have seen 2 door Limiteds('89 or '90 vintage) but have only seen two of them ever. Rare breed.
My '93 is a Sport model.

My son has a 2 door Laredo and had everything on it except the leather seats. Of course thats before he made an urban assault vehicle out of it.

Woody I've only seen two 2-dr Limiteds, both were 90ish. one grey the other red, both full leather, gold honeycomb wheels etc. They made ,em but not many. TC

I am 99% sure I have seen a 2 door country. Mike is right it was hard to specify anything "different" for 97+ 2 doors. It was a real pain to find my 01, 2 door, 5 speed.
