Work Detail
# installed custom "Drivelines NW" (
http://www.drivelinesnw.com/) $500 double CV driveshaft
# installed Back Country Binders "Straightsteer" ($80)
# installed new custom front U-bolts with 6 degree caster correction shims ($70)
# installed leather wrapped Chevrolet 14" steering wheel - huge difference in driving! horn still works too.
(these last 3 changes made a HUGE difference in driveability)
# rewired alternator/starter so huge amounts of current don't go through dash board ammeter.
# removed, stripped, and repainted dash board and shifter covers
# repainted the gauges, polished the covers, and got all of them working except the fuel gauge and ammeter
# replaced and rewired cigarette lighter
# installed new speedometer cable - it works, but needs a ratio adapter to be completely accurate
# installed review mirror with reading/entry lights
# modified wipers to take regular 12" wiper blades - you can get them from any auto store now
# installed better condition glove box
# installed mitsubishi montero seats - big improvement over the stock low back buckets.
# installed new door jamb switches so the interior lights (and new rearview mirror lights) work
# installed good condition replacement Dana 44 (from Back Country Binders) w/ the 3.73 ratio ($300).
# installed all new rear brake hardware when I replaced the axle - this includes wheel cylinders, springs, shoes ($100)
# installed new master cylinder
Negatives
# Was in a fender bender, resulting in a damaged passenger side fender and front bumper. There is also some minor damage to the grill. I put on a used fender and straightened the bumper, but the inner fender could still use some work.
# Body is rusty in the normal Scout spots, but it's a tough chunk of steel that still feels solid.
# parking brake needs adjustment
# gas gauge doesn't work (99% sure it's the sender, likely the float)
# ammeter doesn't work (by design since disconnected to reroute charge away from dash)
# drivers side door doesn't lock with a key - key fits but the locking mechanism is not working - I pulled a good condition locking mechanism from junk yard that's ready to install.
Extra parts included
# Dana 44 axle with trac-loc but has chipped ring gear
# 4 spare tires on original wheels w/ ORIGINAL hubcaps
# 1 spare tire that's a little newer than the others
# 4 body panels with less rest then current: driver and passenger side fenders and driver and passenger side quarter panels (front fender is the one installed)
# 1 passenger side door w/ window removed
# original low back bucket seats and seat bases
# original 17" steering wheel
# 1 used brake booster
# 1 old master cylinder
# various condition stock gauges
