    Suspension system questions

It was ten years ago... I mostly did the stock suspension thing because I was cheap and i wanted to see if I could make it work. After a few runs, I came to the conclusion that there were quite a few downsides, and no real upsides (besides cost). And, unlike most who go for a small lift, I...

6th Annual Reno Run (Memorial Weekend 2016)

Not sure what the Bronco plans are, but parking anywhere up top when going into Bronco has a good chance of causing trouble. It has been known for a long time that you cant park by the fire station without issues. You used to be able to park on the side of the dirt road nearest VC and come in...

6th Annual Reno Run (Memorial Weekend 2016)

You guys familiar with Hackett? It would be a nice half day run for the more well equipped rigs. It is down by Dayton, but if you guys are staying in south Reno anyway, it would probably only be a 45 minute drive there. It is like a longer Bronco without any bypasses, probably a tick harder...

Project mammoth 40s tons bobbed and boated

I guess I wasn't exactly clear. I wouldn't drop the plastic, I would instead make the backer out of dimpled plate instead of flat sheet. The 16 gauge is holding up pretty fair, and I have since run 1/2" UHMW on a light buggy with no backer and no issues. There are plenty of buggy guys out...

Project mammoth 40s tons bobbed and boated

Though there isn't much else the same except the color, my rig has the same boatsides, more or less. I did mine in 16 gauge under 1/2" UHMW, and have no real complaints. Being much lower (3" lift on 33s), I suspect I am in mine more than you will be, and ten years later, they have shown no...

JKS rear shock axle relocation brackets

Another free alternative is the old GoJeep method: http://jeep-xj.info/HowtoRearShockM.htm I have done this on a couple of rigs without issue. It doesn't get you all the clearance of new mounts, but it gets you some, and it also lets you get the mounts level again. Saves the hassle of having...

4th annual Reno Run May 23rd-26th

I ran Steve's Loop about a month ago, and that upper section was getting pretty tore up. I had to take a very odd line and ended up taking out a taillight. A couple JKs on 35's winched after a a few failed attempts. Expect to take a bit of time getting everyone through there...

    Reno 3/29 - 4/1

Bronco has gotten very easy. I was up there with the Petroglyphs group last weekend, and three of us peeled off and ran Bronco. Now, we weren't looking for the most challenging lines, but still - we started into the rocks in Bronco at about 3:30, and I was back home in Fernley a bit after 5:00...

    max tire size stock xj

For reference: This is stock (worn out) springs and bumps and 33's. And I rubbed like crazy. Consider it a reference point for how much you really have to trim to comfortably run 33's on stock suspension. Basically - a couple inches more than this...

    Goatfest 2012?

Very good chance I will be going down this year. I've had the buggy down to JV four or five times now, but I can't get out and see much with that little thing, so I plan to take the XJ this year and do some wandering.

    Reno, May run: May 17th-20th

Ill be up there a bit earlier. From looking at the satellite images, it appears that there is plenty of room to park a trailer up by the trail, but I have never been up there to know for sure. If this isn't the case, I would appreciate it if someone would post up so I can just leave the rig...

    Reno, May run: May 17th-20th

Anybody going to be wheeling Friday other than Bud at night? My XJ is still down for the rear link job, but the buggy should be ready to go - and I pretty much have Friday off...

Ford 9" disk swap e-brake ideas.

It isn't that popular, but I like Lincoln Mark VII discs The rotors are 10.5" or so and vented, and the calipers have the E-brake built in. It comes off an 8.8, so it will pretty much work the same as explorer stuff in terms of adapting it to your 9".

Why I won't be doing any wheeling this year.

All my frame is done with good ol' angle iron... Plated on the outside from the control arms to leaf mounts. Plated on the inside from the leaf mounts back. About a foot of overlap in the middle.
