I agree at one time it was Horrible for the AW4 but the ATF+4 on the shelves today is no longer the same fluid. (So I have been told) I do tend to belive that because mine is currently running it. The only reason I have posted the above is because of this

Lake Christy At RC. What was a little deeper then it looked. Hydrolocked the motor. Pulled her out, cleaned out all the water. Fired her up, and proceded to drive out to the parking lot, about half way there, a very loud bang. Popped the hood and there it was.

Just swapped out my heater core this week. It is definaly a hand full but not difficault. Just take your time and remember where it all came from. Mother nature has had my R-12 for many years so there was no need for an system evac or evap replacment with my swap.

You will have to get your gears reset. The point of the shims is to aline the ring gear and pinnion, but since every Carrier and housing are just slightly diffrent, Shims are required to make up the diffrence. so in all any change of the carrier requiers you to reset your gears.

How about A bad IAC Motor. Intrake air Control, Is what controls the amount of air heading into the motor at Idle. If it died in a shut position then you would have no air heading to the engine unless you push the go peddle. Just sounds easy enuff to be it. Now the striped gear part I dont think...
