I found this link on pirate. My SIL is taking his 7yo and 3yo daughters up on Rubithon the weekend prior so my wife wants me to go to make sure the grandkids get out OK. Last year if it wasn't for the Jeep guys driving by to assist we'd still be up there.

I'll get some photos posted up.

Yikes! snow, mud, oh boy! I really hope it dries up a bit for our trip on the 26th. i would hate to have it to where conditions are no bueno.

It will be muddy and wet at least untill july, and with snow still at the box today I would guess the tahoe side will have snow till july too. If in anyway you can push your trip back a week or two I would sugust you do it.

Please tread lightly, winch before you dig holes and don't drive around mud or snow and make new tracks, stay on the trail.

With all the other groups that will be there, I am sure the law enforcement will be out in full force. Don't park or even drive over 25 feet away from the center of the trail if you do you will get a stiff citation! Minimum $275! It is your responsibility to know where the trail is and ignorance is no excuse. Have your 2010 California fire permits, pack it in - pack it out, drive responsibly, respect others, and use wag bags for your waste.

Just back pix to follow.

Went in through Loon Lake about 2PM yesterday. Made it as far as a hill just before the start of Lil Sluice when we stopped. Traveling w/ a 3yo and 6yo does that sometimes. Ellis Creek was all of about 24" deep, if that. There is snow on the ground in the shady spots. Got cold last night, temp on the vehicle stated 40*F. Sun came up this morning and knocked down the chill by 0800. We went through Lil Sluice and stopped on a granite slab where the stream from Spider Lake crosses the trail. Hiked up to Spider Lake, well worth it. There was snow in the shadows at Spider Lake and along the trail. None of the wet crossings were difficult. The trail was more crowded this Rubithon than last year. We didn't venture any further than Spider, came out and used one of the by-passes for Lil Sluice. FOTR were agressively promoting good wheeling practices but saw no Law Enforcement. Plenty of yahoos on the trail this weekend. Pix to follow.

By-passing Little Sluice. That was the only snow on the trail.

Climbing back up the by-pass on the way out. You can see the mud, the trail was slimy with mud but large sections had dried between the way in on Friday and our late yesterday departure.

My 3yo Grand daughter not keeping her arms inside the ride at all times.

Wow some snow on thousand dollar hill still? The Tahoe side must have some deep in snow, you talk to anyone comming in from that side?

Oh and more photos please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice pics! I will be there this weekend for the FOTR work day. Cant wait!!!!

FOTR were handing out good trail advice and wag bags a'plenty this weekend, so kudo's to them. Did some wheeling on the first aprt of the Rubicon and Wentworth Trails this past Friday and Saturday and the weather was perfect. Only saw a tiny bit of snow on that side. Plenty of water leading up to Gurley Creek, but the crossing was not bad.

Dave,
I read on Pirate a few folks have broken through from Tahoe to the Springs. We only went to the creek crossing just past Little Sluice and then hiked up to Spider Lake. Everyone we spoke with on the way out had only gone as far as Buck Island Lake.

I'll see what other pix I have showing condition of the trail.

Great little hike and some nice views up on that side of spider:

Back before 2005 that was a nice side trail, back when you could drive to and around Spider lake, they closed off that area in 2005. Now they don't want people even walking around parts of the lake:
