    Driveline too long?

well, my old springs gave up & I got new RE 3.5" rear lead spring pack. After putting them on, the jeep is a little lower than it was before (maybe 1/2-1"). The problem is now there's a thub thub as I'm driving and I think now the driveline is too long. Many years ago I had a longer regular...

    Expedition in Antarctica?

No need for an extension cord. Just use a backup battery and an inverter. Just for kicks, I tried that last year hunting in Idaho - wasn't cold enough to need a block heater, but I plugged it into my inverter, drained the battery overnight keeping the engine warm, then drove it all the next...

    Home built roof rack weight?

I'd guess my rack wieghs in around 60lbs or so - enough that I can't lift it high enough to get on my Jeep by myself, but me and my gf can lift it up there without too many problems (unloaded). As far as capacity goes, I'd guess I've had 200+ pounds of gear on it with no real problems (kayak, 2...

    Parting 1991 XJ

Front springs are in good shape. Rear springs are shot (too much sag). I've got an extra set but have never put them on. They were on it when I bought it 6 years ago. Don't know the specifics but can take pics for ya...

    Parting 1991 XJ

I've given up trying to sell it. 1991 XJ, 2 dr, basic stock XJ, with 3 or 4" lift (I think rancho). New Borla header, RS9000 shockes, body is perfect, 31x10.5 BFG AT w/80% tread. ~180k on drivetrain. I've had it for 110k miles and have have no problems but cracked exhaust manifold & water...

92 XJ, 2 dr, 4" lift, needs springs, clutch, $1200

The header's in good shape - it's been on for about a year. The flowmaster is still good, but is dented & beat up pretty good. I'll let you know if I decide to part it out. Rims are beater crome 15x8 rims. I don't know the BS, but will go check & let you know.

92 XJ, 2 dr, 4" lift, needs springs, clutch, $1200

Was going to fix this, but don't have time anymore... 91 XJ, 4.0L, 2dr ~180k miles, 5 sp. Body is straight. 4" lift, 31x10.5 BFG AT w/85-90%, interior is ok, usual stains. Driver's seat bracket is cracked, can be welded easy. Borla header, flowmaster exhaust (two outlet). Otherwise bone...

Looks like i will be getting a new bumper FREE

I got rearended in Chicago last winter. 5 degrees outside, had to stop for traffic, Pontiac Sunfire, or sunbird, or spitfire or whatever ran right into my hitch. Bent my stock rear bumper up about 1/4" and broke the hanger for my exhaust. Caused a leak in the front where my Borla meets the...

    Getting Angry

Had a buddy once w/ a BB Chevy 454 w/a Melling pump. Fresh rebuild, lots of power. Driving to the car show, pump went out, oil pressure dropped. 1 seized piston, couple of scarred cylinders. Since they were alread bored .060 over, couldn't fix the block (from what I remember). Melling...

    Road trip question

I just got done driving Chicago-Portland (OR). Most of it was in 4th gear (31" tires, stock gears = no power in 5th). Except for the 12 hrs stopped for the replaced water pump in des moines, I drove almost 40 hours straight. RPMs were anywhere from 2500-3000 the whole way. I was totally...

    u joint of front d/s

Had the same problem with mine. I took it to a DS shop, they whacked it with a hammer to unspool the DS & pressed it in with a socket & vice. Next time I changed a u-joint, I did the same thing. Took about 3-4 good hard whacks with a BFH, but you could hear it unspool. Pressed right in -...

    Driveshaft/TC problem?

ok, now I'm frustrated. When I drive, every once in awhile I hear a pining from my driveshaft. I removed the DS, new u-joints, etc. When I put it back in, it had a little play (like it's supposed to), but after I drove it about 100yds, it starts pining again & the driveline is completely...

    My homemade roofrack

I once added the weight (including the spare) at somewhere around 250-300 lbs. And I've had this rack in a similar incarnation for the last 2-3 years, so I doubt it's going to fall apart anytime soon. The crossbars are a little bent (maybe 1/2" deflection at center), so I might add a third...

    My homemade roofrack

good ideas Future plans are a wire mesh floor for the open side, plus a lockable fire extinguisher (had one stolen already). Plus I've been thinking of having a mesh basket in the front kinda like they have on the xterra - good for storing wet kayaking gear for the drive home. Also planning...

    towing

My uneducated 2 cents I'm sure I've probably got a completly different experience, but I've got 4" lift, 31x10.5, stock gears, 5-speed. Up until last year, I was towing my brothers 19' alumaweld duck hunting boat over the Cascades 2-3 times per season. Total weight on the trailer & gear was...

    My homemade roofrack

Seems like there's lot of posts on this, so I ran out and took some pictures. This is more of an expedition rack since I wanted to be able to use for everything from wheeling to camping to long road trips to the middle of nowhere. Any questions or comments for improvements are appreciated...
