ZJ question

Have a friend that has a ZJ. Every once in a while it starts making a noise, either while it's being driven or just sitting there idling, that sounds like a balloon being run across bike spokes. A low pulsating type sound would be a discription i guess. Anyone else ever had this experience? The dealer has never been able to find the source, though in their defence, it has never done it for them.

an intermittent problem can be temperature related. possibly a cracked exhaust manifold. it may not make the noise when warmed up and the manifold expands. need more info on when it happens and where the noise comes from. maybe the harmonic balancer rubs the timing cover? its hard to say at this point.

Well, having not been there myself when it happens, I really can't say the exact circumstances. He isn't exactly mechanically inclined either. I'll be seeing him tomorrow and will see if I can get more of an exact description on run time etc.

Ok, I have heard alot of people explain sounds alot of ways but that has to be the most unique yet.
ZJs are weird...I own one and still can't figure out why it does certian things. Like running out of gas when I turn left when I have a quarter tank of gas. Nothing wrong in the tank...already checked.
