Yet another stuck bolt question

Alright, Ive searched and tried:

Heat, PB, Lube, BFH, Impact, tighten/ then loosen/ tighten/ then loosen

I cannot budge the front bolt holding the leaf... (or the back but I can just cut them off and replace)

Before I cut the b!tch off and have to tap it, am I forgeting anything? :variety:

(oh ya, I cant weld)

It took a 1/2" socket on a 18" breaker bar with 2 ft. of pipe for me to get mine going... then it seized up in the metal sleeve and I had to cut it out anyway.

FYI - the front bolts are 14mm x 2.0. I was able to pick up a tap from Fastenal for $15.

You're welcome! It took me a while to track down the bolt size and find someone with that size tap, so I try and post it up when I can to save other people the headache.

damn, i keep going out the garage, looking at it and saying fawk this.... I had hoped on getting my xj going before the end of summer. Maybe I can get enough motivation to finish it before the end of august :)

PB Blaster dude. Soak the back side of that bolt (where it goes into the frame) Spray through the holes in the frame near it. Just keep soaking it as often as you can. If you try and force that bolt with a breaker bar, that nut inside the frame rail will twist and break loose where it's spot welded and you'll be in a big pickle if that happens.

If the bolt is rusted into the sleeve of the bushing, then you'll just have to get to cutting. A 4.5" carbide cutting wheel on a grinder will get it done - just cut between the bushing and the bracket. Once that's done, soak the bolt from behind as suggested above and then get the drill and bolt extractor set and hope it breaks free.

well i started cutting the rear bolts off, still haven't made any progress with the front, ill just continue to pb the shit outta them until my face heals....

oh ya my face... you'd think ive never used an angle grinder before.

18 stitches (the doc's at Ft Carson know what there are doing)

And yes i was wearing a full face mask but the kick back knocked it off (it would have hit my nose if i wasnt wearing it). It looked a hell of a lot worse... blood was every where, and when an angle grinder hits you spinning, you also think the worse.

Mine did the same thing on my last lift I did. I take a torch and put it in the frame rail on the inside and heated the crap out of it. That worked to get one out and the other almost out. Then the leaf had to be plasma cut so we could get to the bolt. Good luck!!! I already fought that fight.

Yikes! Sorry to hear about the angle grinder incident. At least the scars will make you look tough.

Just come up with some good story - a bar fight, close encounter with a bear, getting mugged by a pack of ninjas, whatever...

ya ive been thinking about that, but getting attacked by an angle grinder is hard to beat...

funny though, my wife is having surgury done on the inside of her nose next week, so when we are together we are going to look like we got mugged.

hey i dont wanna thread jack but imhaving a HUGE stuck bolt issue....
on my starter.....head of bolt is almost completely gone....vise grips wont fit or grap well onough and there is nothing to grap on to!
used bolt extractor but broke TWO off inside the bolt! its ridiculous!
so weld another bolt to old one and turn that?!.....thats all i can think of

so still no luck on my front leaf bolts

ive sprayed the bolts with PB nearly everyday for the last 3 weeks and still nothing. (all over the bolt, mainly the tacked bolt on the inside of the frame.)

i also tryed liquid wrench and some other similar crap.

as said before, no luck with BFG, Impact, tighten/loosen, and heat.

should i just cut the bitch off and drill it out????

(sucks b/c i have to buy an new angle grinder, i can seem to get the disc off, same one that cut my face open)

did you cut the springs off? Mine were rusted to the sleeve inside the bushing, I cut the spring off and cut the bushing, then cut the sleeve and got some PB in there and they came right off, aside from the hassle cutting rubber it wasn't so bad.

After my adventure, I read that it's easy to put a wrench on the nut if you cut a hole through the floor, above the mount. It's one of those "measure twice, cut once" deals.

I put myself in the pickle Yella mentioned: Broke the nut loose.

I was in a bind for time and had extra hardware. I took a sawzall to the bolt, got the spring out of the way, dug the stub out and put everything back in place before installing the replacement spring.

Lucky I had the extra hardware, lucky I've been around a welder before, lucky I picked up the Mrs on time. It was not a pleasant situation.
