I have a Detroit EZ in the front of my trail rig...it is quiet and very effective, much more fun than open-diff. This or a Lock-Rite or Aussie is the best value IMHO.
These replace the side & spider gears in the open carrier, and can be swapped over when you regear. Just like the LSD or full-lockers, there are two model #s of open D30 carrier: 3.55 & down, 3.73 and up. The drop-in lockers will work in either model. Cheap hint...find a used carrier from a 4 cyl (4.10:1) XJ, swap in the locker parts, replace bearings & new gears or get the used 4.10 gears with the carrier.
