So a month and a half ago I posted a thread "Added a new Jeep to the family" and some probably glanced at it right, for those that didn't we traded in the wife's FORD Sport Trac for 08 Commander.

Well Last Sunday the 15th my wife gets off work goes to the gas station to get gas, comes home parks the Commander in the garage and hops in my XJ to race off to meet Dutch to go to Illinois Gulch. Everything seems normal.................

Monday she has a training to attend to and I took the day off to watch our boy. Not five minutes after she walked out the door she comes back in to say; "Honey something is wrong the Jeep, it won't move!"

Sure as poop I go to the garage and the Commander is running, I get in and put the thing in reverse and I do not feel the tranny engage. Looked at the instrument panel and it shows in reverse. Play around little going into different gears, shutting off, starting back up, etc. Still no engagement of the tranny. So the wife is now getting close to be late so I fire up the XJ and take her to class. Come back and play with it a little still no worky. Get inside call the dealer, and they give me Chrysler's warranty service line to call instead. So I call and tell them the story and they schedule it to be picked up and say it will go to the closest dealer which just happens to be the place we bought it from. Tow truck shows up 30 minutes later and the Commander will go into neutral luckily so we pushed it out of the garage and he loads it up on the flatbed.

The service dept calls me a couple hours later and tells me they are really busy but hope to find out what happened and call me before end of the day.
So waited around and finally end of the day I get a call and they tell me the tranny is toast and that they contacted Chrysler who says they just want the whole thing replace and it will take 5-7 days. I demanded they get us a rental or loaner to which they complied. (Better) Talked to the service dept on Friday and they have the new tranny and it will be done by Monday. I asked if they specifically found out what happened and they told me the main shaft was all screwed up and they clutch packs froze.....................I am not a tranny guy but sounds logical?

So 1 1/2 months and only 1400 miles the tranny is toast? I asked the wife if she was neutral dropping it and when she says; "Whats that?" I realise it was just our bad luck creeping out.

So do not buy JEEP they are horrible! Their product breaks right away and then they make you wait for a week to get it fixed/replaced and their customer services makes you call all these different people making you hang on the phone and then to kick you while you are down, gives a KIA Rio as a rental car! STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM JEEP THEY MAKE CRAPPY PRODUCT! ........sorry could not resist the last paragraph! :D

Our liberty has 130k on it with no problems other than a crushed lifter...but my mom ran it out of oil.

they came to your house and picked it up, then gave you a free rental..

dont see that often, Be happy! with a little luck this problem will be your last!

our salesman was a jeep salesman last year, they had 2 unlimiteds on the lot, both engines hammered right of the truck. He says every 2nd dodge truck needs a panel or two refinished due to "factory hangers". kinda hard to trust

.........you missed my dry sarcasm in the end there didn't you?

We were the 1 in 5,000 to have a bad tranny from the factory. At least they could give us something better than a KIA Rio though you know what I am saying? :D

ha,we have a toyota echo on our courtesy fleet to scare em back into our product!

Put a Rusty's lift on that lemon of a Commander. That oughta fix it. Or at least keep you on the waiting list for parts....... :D

Not exactly why this is in the For Sale/Wanted forum....... but that's how Skully rolls generally...... :dunno:

That is because I am tired and half a sleep and did not realize I put it in the for sale section so feel free to move it oh ye master of the forums! :D

..........actually could you please? :worship:

Similar thing happened to my ex-wife’s liberty we bought brand new off the lot in 06. Less than 1500 miles the manual tranny would no longer shift through the gears. Seems to have had excessive melted PLASTIC  fragments throughout the transmission. Jeep replaced it, gave us a rental, etc... I was not too happy of a camper and it convinced me NOT to buy another jeep.

glad to see someone elses sees all the STUPID bickering and aruing on here about things that are PREFERANCE...
and decided to make a big joke of it
i found this hilarious...

They better have given us a rental! I would have had Tom Martino (Local news consumer advocate) on their arse in a heartbeat!

I could see if it has been a year, but we just bought it and we made sure the Sales manager and the salesman know we were there with a blown tranny!

You have no idea what a bad experience with a car company is.

I own a powerstroke diesel . . .

FORD............that is all you have to say. :jester:

I was actually taken by surprise that we had this problem with the JEEP. I have owned nothing but JEEPS in the last 15 years and they have all been used and never had problems like this. Glad there is a lifetime power train warranty. I am a member of the Commander forum looking over there for similar issues and this is definitely a fluke. There was other issues but nothing like this in under 1400 miles.

Ya i agree...new Jeep products stink
My mother bought 08 wrangler x and it sometimes makes a horrible noise and shakes like its slipping gears. The dealership has no idea how to fix it and have looked at it 3 times. So then one day when brother was driving it and it did it again but this time the new style drive shaft broke.

Sounds very much like a manufacturing issue. I'm sure something slipped by during assembly and it took a while to eat itself.

HA HA HAA, oh man Skully. What a hoot. :D

Damn Jeep and their crappy products, you should have gotten your trans from Rusty's. :D

I wish AMC still owned Jeep though. Chrysler ruined them.

I went in for service twice on an car I had years ago. The first time I demanded a loner and got a bottom of the line honda civic. Next time I had to have service work and asked all nice like I got a top of the line toy 4runner.

Still that sucks on the break down after so little of miles on it. now days alot of parts and stuff I think are hit and miss.

I hate seeing the direction of ChryCo in general. I had a '93 Dodge Shadow (owned '92 - '00) and a '95 Dodge Dakota(owned '95 - '08). Bought 'em both new. Never had anything more than minor issues with either one. Those were usually just an age thing where parts had worn out, never a quality issue. That ugly little Shadow was surprisingly quick off the line and it loved the twisty stuff(v rated tires stock on a car that wouldn't do 106mph). The 2wd Dak was the BEST vehicle I've ever owned, by far. It leaked, creaked, and rattled, but always started and got me to my destination (winter weather/roads permitting); usually with a lot more cargo weight than there should be.
The '89 XJ is holding it's own so far(4wd earns extra points), but the Dak provided over 13 years and 200k+ miles of rock solid service. Got me through 10 1/2 Colorado winters(mostly). That's a pretty high bar.

to fix the automotive industry crisis...
they should bring back the XJ with the same styling.....
and then but the good ol' 4.0 in it...give it the RUBI 44's with 4:10's and call it a day
