xj restoration w/383 stroker

I have a 500 hp 500 ft pds tq 383 stroker, put a holley 4x4 avenger carb on, why do I need fuel injection? My novak mounts should be here tomorrow. I got the marine clean step done today, metal prep tomorrow. Not sure if I will start applying the por 15 tomorrow. What is the best way to upload pics. Will any blockhugger style header work?

Are you worried about the unibody twisting with all that torque?? I wanted to put a 5.7L Hemi in mine but decided to go with a 4.9L stroker instead with about 315 hp and 345 ft lbs. May still supercharge it and get up to about 400hp. Adding frame stiffs hopefully this week and front and rear bumper soon along with dual clayton crossmembers and a custom cage. Think with all those my unibody should be set for my current 315 hp and 400+ if I ever blow it.

Here's mine. Been putting it together and refining things for 5 years. Takes time when you don't have any extra money. Been driving it for 5 months now, it's reliable and hasn't left me stranded. I had a goal when I started this to have a reliable driver. I succeeded there, now I get to refine little things. It does have a carb, but injection is down the road.

I have spent time reading your thread, very nice build and thanks for sharing. It seems like most of the v8 swaps are using the older Cherokees. At this point my biggest problem is the wiring. I called novak and was told that they could simplify my harness. Thanks to novak cause this wouldn't be possible for me without them.

Yes, I am definitely concerned about the unibody holding up. I have a set of rusty's front frame stiffeners, I plan on reinforcing the unibody as much as possible. I am using the skyjacker rr lift that has the big cross member section. I am open to anybody's suggestions.

Dodge muscle cars were all unibody and held up to 500+ hp.

I'd be worried about motor mounts tearing off the sheetmetal. Just plate the rail where you put your mounts.

Can I get anymore suggestions on the wiring? Does the Chilton manual give good enough wiring diagrams or should I try and get a actual factory service manual and try to figure it out. Guy at Novak said it cost 500 for them to do it.

You're going to have fun getting the gauges to work on a late model... there are a few ways to do it. The stock instrument panel is all data bus driven on 97 and later, so you can't just wire stuff up, it's either EE nerd stuff or replace the gauge cluster with aftermarket gauges basically. Some have left the stock ECU and wired stuff up in interesting ways but you're gonna have a CEL for sure doing that and the tach may not work, I forget.
