converted to zj rear discs. i terribly underestimated how long and what it would take.
it seems a little squirley at first, but i only test drove it once. need sleep.
i think the squirrely-ness might be from two things:
1.-one or both of the junkyard calipers are bad or sticking?
how would i check that?
they bled fine...
2.-maybe its not squirrelly at all but im just really tired.

anyone who is has done the swap onto a 44 have any comments about it or anhything else they modified after the swap.
i found out today i needed the rubicon backing plates and got that taken care of along with new bearings. grinding the bracket was a total bi@#%&ch and took forever. drilling new holes in the bracket for xj44 wasnt so bad.

I did the swap, mine have worked great right out of the gate.

It does feel a bit different having the rear actually help stop the rig. I have had no problems at all with my set-up.

cost:
brackets with calipers and old brake lines and brake shoes-60$ from pnp
new pads and rotors-70$ autozone
rubicon retainer plates-18$ (9$each)one from dealer one from west coast diffs
new bearings and seals and having the rubcicon plates pressed and drilled out -120$
two new caliper bolts with metal sleeves-5$
realized my spare shafts had longer studs than my stockers-free
crush washer for soft brake line driver side -0.79$
brake fluid, cleaner, more nitrile gloves, towels, and 8 grinding disks for drill-50$
total
323$

i have some uneven wear on the rotors after driving it around. could this be the symptoms of a stuck caliper? or is it normal?

there are the pics of the things. wearing on the inside of the rotors...
is this something that will stop or do i need new calipers?

What happened to the park brake shoes and the backing plates?

Looks like the pads and rotors are wearing OK. :dunno:

EDIT: I have posted this before, but I used 2 right side YJ park brake cables and a couple cable clamps for my junk.

never mind im freakin stupid. pulled the tires. the pads dont even reach that far. its just a groove there from the factory or something.
by the way with the disc rear this thing stops like crazy now. way worth the 300$ and 2 full days....

by the way i decided not to use a parking brake anymore. i know alot of guys that dont. and on my two previous scouts i never had a parking brake either...
please dont flame since i do plan on adding it eventually....

i highly reccamend the swap but if i searched more i would have realized i would have used explorer disc brakes to make life easy...

Nice upgrade Jon.. its money and time well spent when some idiot slams on the brakes for no reason and your fully loaded.. what would you do for an e-brake when the time comes? Just curious

the grand cherokee ebrake setup with the cherokee or kj or zj cables looped over and coupled.
im not too worried about the ebrake for now(knock on wood) ive only had one ebrake between my last 3 rigs never had a prob as long as im aware its not there .,....

What makes the Explorer brakes easier? Less drilling of the backing plate and rotor?
I did the ZJ brakes on my old D35 rear and it was pretty simple. I have drums on my D44 and when they wear out I will replace with disks - it was a big difference on the D35.

its an easy swap to the 35 or the 8.25
theres alot mroe drilling involved with the 44 on the zj stuff. less drilling on the ford explorer stuff...
i just recently got some vibes back today
kinda crappy
need to fix it.
back to the drawing

didnt have to drill the rotors though

could i get a PN on the rear wheel bearings? having trouble getting that together. Did you have a shop press the bearings on? if not could someone walk me through removal and install of new bearings... kind of a newb at this but i have the press and time to do it, thanks

shop charged 10$ per side.
dont have a part number. they had em in stock.
