I have a 1988 Wagoneer Limited w/ 4.0. The bolt on #6 exhaust rocker arm broke and we replaced the head of of a 1990 Wagoneer Limited 4.0. Both ran fine before the bolt broke. The problem I am having now, is that the 88 is overheating.:repair: We got it running, it sounded great, no knocks, no water in the oil and vise versa, no leaks, etc. Then boom the upper radiator hose blows at the water neck. We are going to replace the water pump and the thermostat. Does anyone have any other suggestions before we pull the motor? If you do any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is my daily driver:loveu::sad1: and it is greatly missed. Thanks.

Did you get ALL the air out of the cooling system? It sounds like you didn't and the pressure got too much....

Why are you replacing the water pump and thermostat? Are they bad? I would properly "burp" the cooling system after repalcing the radiator hose before spending any $ troubleshooting. The closed systems are pretty reliable, IF you get all the air out.

Hope that helps....

Yea got all the air out. The water pump impeller is gone, and there wasn't a thermostat in it at all. We filled the block up with it nose up and ran the water till it ran clear twice. After the first ran clear we drained it, and it was still rusty brown. That's why we did this twice.
