Austin,

First off welcome to the forum.

Second you sould probably do so serching on this site for lift kits.

Most guys will lite you up for not doing your homework prior tho asking this question.

If this is your daily driver you will have a hard time finding a CHEAP lift kit to clear 33's that has any road maners.

You get what you pay for in lift kits.

Anyways... Welcome..

Whats wrong with coil spacers?

I have a friend who has been driving a cherokee for a long time and he suggested no spacers. Just taking his advice on that, ive done some looking and i dont have $500 for a 4in kit. my budget is in the $200-$300 range. My wrangler had a rancho kit and i was very pleased with it but i am jus looking around.

Maybe he meant blocks(for the leafs), nothing wrong with coil spacers.

Do a search for bastard lift, it involves keeping the xj main leaf and repacking it with either 2wd s10 or dakota leaves and it will give you between 3-4.5" in the rear and you can either find some f150 or GC coils but I've also heard that stock TJ coils give around 4" of lift without using spacers or anything.

tj coils will lower it a bit or keep it the same, definitely wont give lift.

You're gonna have to do some pretty substantial stuff to clear 33's. TJs can get away with shorter lift and fit those tires, but not XJs. I'd sell the 33's and use the money for lift and smaller tires.
The big question: What are you gonna use it for?

Dont mean to sound mean but, clearing 33's probably wont be "cheap" Ramsey's right, nothing wrong with spacers. For 33's Your going t obe looking at 5-6" of lift including control arms and a new trackbar and possibly an SYE. Search Rocklizard on google and base a bastard pack for the rear off of that. as for the front I would suggest looking for used 5-6" coils and control arms, extended brake lines etc. And last but not least, dont forget the front end aligment aftert the lift.

3-4" tops for 33s if you're not scared of cutting.

I have a 97, and like these guys are saying You will NEED an SYE as well as a few other vital stuff to squeeze those 33s in there.

My only suggestion would be to Search Junkyard upgrades for suspention. Theres some things you can get to lift such as Leaf springs and coils, Perhaps even control arms... But you'll need to spend money on shocks and or other things. So I'd have to agree on the Selling the 33s, that will help you get started.

Ok guys thanks for your help. I believe I will end up selling the 33's and land a set of 31's. What do you fellas know about those re-treaded tires, I saw a post on that last night but cant find it again?
