XJ for sale or trade

I'm considering going back to having a regular car, so my wife and I can deal with our 3 kids. I know, don't bother telling me, but it is reality.

So, I've got a grey '88 XJ, in very nice shape, with about 85,000 miles (original, of course). It is lifted 6 inches, with 4.10 gears, non-disco front axles with 297/760 U-joints, 33/12.50s on black steelies, straight nice body, custom front winch bumper with Warn winch, custom rock rails, home-made rear bumper, rear receiver hitch with recovery hook, Quicker swaybar Discos, air tube with K&N, CB, AM/FM/CD, Recaro driver's seat, Hi lift jack, Con-ferr roof rack. Le Baron hood vents. Aftermarket driving lights, custom headliner. Skyjacker track bar and relocation bracket (on top of front axle).

4 liter, auto tranny, (manual tranny switch installed, keeps tranny from shifting up or down, when engaged). I have adjustable upper and lower control arms (not installed) and fixed aftermarket LCAs.

It needs a new windshield (cracked, I have had it priced at $140 for replacement), and the tires could do with getting balanced again (I seem to have lost wheel weights on both front wheels) but that's about it. It runs great, burns no oil, and is very dependable.

But, it's too dang tall to get into for my wife, and our kiddoes. So, I'm looking for a good trade, thinking primarily about a VW Jetta, or perhaps a Honda/Toyota equivalent, in as nice of shape as my Jeep is in. Or, perhaps you have something that I haven't thought of that would appeal to me -- but I'm thinking "PRACTICAL."

PM me and I'll shoot you some pictures. I'm in Aspen, Colorado.

drop it 3" and go with 31's...
i'll even trade tires with you(if you drive over to ky. lol)
i had a jetta, and loved it, but i am 6' 5" so i didn't fit very well. as soon as my wife lost interest, we sold it. the honda is bigger
good luck :)

I hear ya. I thought about dropping it, but I've invested so much dang work in getting it up there (started, like all of us, at 3 inches, then went higher) that I can't imagine going back down. I'm just 6-0, so the VWs fit me fine.

I've been a VW fan for years (I've had 7 or 8). Hopefully I'll line one up this way, rather than doing the PITA of selling my XJ, then buying a car.

But there's always the EBAY way, which seems to be commanding top dollar for XJs these days.

This is an older picture, before the bumpers and the rock rails, but you can get the idea. This was on top of Pearl Pass last summer. It's more of a scenery photo, but its the only one I could find that I had already hosted.

Should you look into a Passat? Dont know if they're bigger or not. I just got rid of a 96 Jetta and that thing was TOO damn small.
Got me. I'll have to check into that.
