The A/C in my 94 worked pretty well..... until I developed a leak, and all of the R134 left. Never fixed it, as it's no longer my daily driver. Some day, that compressor will get turned into an onboard air device.

I love my A/C in my 89 xj..But it is R-12...Blows super cold..My blower was full of dirt and paper when i first got it, cleaned it out an she blows good

I have 3 XJs/MJs and the AC is broken on ALL of them. I'd say hate.

The 98 holds a charge, I think it's just a solenoid/clutch shim issue but haven't messed with it enough yet. The other two have leaks somewhere in the system, looking at doing a full R134a conversion (lines, dryer, compressor, condensor, maybe even evaporator) on the MJ because I would like to have AC in it since it's my DD.

My 98 was great from day one, the dealer kept topping off the R134 and I was too stupid to realize it was from a leaky evaporator, then the warranty ran out. Then I never had the money or the time to get it done or fix it myself.

I have had 5 jeeps. the only A/C that ever worked for me was on my 5.9 but it needs recharged..

Turned the XJ's into OBA

I just got mine working again and if its too hot out it starts to run hot even with the e-fan on & its working just ok.

Oops.... cranial flatulence.... 94s had R12, not R134.

I think I read somewhere that the cutover was 1/1/95. This would mean that Early 94's would be R-12 and later 94's would be R-134a. I had a 94 built before the end of the year and it was definetly R-12, luckily it is still blowing fairly cold to this day.....

My 96 and 98 have worked fine since day one. The clutch on the 98 started to slip after ten years, so I put on a new one. Neither system has ever sprung a leak or stopped working. It gets hot out here and they don't seem to have a problem cooling the cabin down at all.

Sounds like the A/C does work well when everything is tip top but they have a tendency to crap out. Maybe I'll try cleaning my blower like scottmcneal did. I just had it recharged not too long ago.

The AC in my 97 has finally started to go haywire. This winter, I noticed the compressor was cycling at very short intervals; now it doesn't cycle at all. It blows cold for a bit, then cool, then doesn't do much but run my temp gauge up to 210.

I miss the AC in my Sonoma. Nuclear winter all summer long. I've only had 3 cars with functioning AC, and they were all GM vehicles, and none were new or low mileage cars. I don't know who makes the GM components, but they seem to have been very reliable in my experience.

Need to troubleshoot the Jeep's system - high 80s/low 90s + high humidity is sucking with marginal AC.

I've worked on the AC system in my '91 more than a few times. First is when it was converted from R12 to R134 and the freon leaked out. I put on a newer compressor and had it cooling great for a while, but I guess there was a slow leak. Charged it up again and was good for another long while, but now the compressor is starting to not sound so good and I think it needs another charge.

When it does cool, it cools well. Can't really complain about it, but it sure doesn't get as cold as my Nissan Frontier does.

Thinking its time for another compressor since it seems to me that I need to have the accessory belt tightened up a lot to keep it from squealing when the compressor kicks on.

mine blows ice cold even when its 100° out, in my 95. of course i have no headliner and no rear hatch so it doesnt help much :D

my feels nice when the heat index is 109. just needed a charge and now its ok. Still get a hot left leg from not having carpet. I may get some black carpet and put it over the trans tunnel though. I like herculiner othewise.

The Grands and the 97+ XJ's and TJ's had low bidder evaporators, the failure rate on them is close to 80%. No other brand I have ever owned had an evap go bad, compressor yea, evap no. It would not be so bad if you could get the thing out in less time than it takes to swap an engine.

Strange--not too many people think of having their a/c serviced on their vehicles as a regular maintenance item, and yet I have my heat pump for my house serviced each year. I've owned the house 17 years, so its about 27 years old--maybe Carrier should get into the automotive a/c business.

My '99 works well. I usually just use the normal setting, when it's a 100+ I use the max setting and it keeps me nice a cool.

my 96 ac still works ok, I don't use it much or service it, so it isnt super cold now, if I took the time it would be ok, but with no interior in the jeep, it would go from 110 inside to 90...... meh.....
