WTB trailer

I'm looking for a cheap trailer that I can build on. My ideal trailer is 6x10 no frills, flatbed BUT I'm open to almost anything that's 6ft wide as I would cut off the stuff on top and throw it out. It needs a good axle, electrical brakes are a plus but not a requirement. Needs to be able to support up to 2K lbs

Oh yeah..... I want it cheap :) So I don't care if the frame is rusty, damaged... if the price is right :)

If I was going to build a trailer, I would use an axle that was built like the one on my XJ (or other Jeep). All kinds of spare parts, including a housing, but takes no valuable space.

Well for an OffRoad trailer yes. I'm looking to build now a small creature comfort trailer for camping at established campgrounds ;) which means no real need for spares :). Plus that pig of an axle is heavy :D

I have been told (very second-hand, take it with a grain of salt) that Kali will no longer register trailers that use an axle with a differential. This is not to say that the ones on the road already are in jeopardy, but just that you cannot build a new trailer that way and expect them to inspect it and give you registration for it. Rationale I was given was that no one bothers to maintain the axle. Is that indeed the case? :dunno: But I would certainly look into it before building such a trailer.

I disagree. That would be larger than necessary with a big rock magnet in the middle. For a trailer you want as much clearance as you can so that it's not getting hung up on stuff. Plus you can't really do brakes which, if it's going to be loaded down, would be very nice.

If I were to build one I would consider a spring-under portal-style axle setup with the leaf springs as far outboard toward the wheels as possible. This would keep the axle tube high without the trailer being ridiculously tall.

So getting back on topic.... I'm after a cheap 6x10 trailer.

What is your budget ? I have a 6x12 tilt bed, I was just about to replace the 2x6 decking and fresh paint. It has side rails, but I need to repair the top rail and front rail, but if you are going to rip it off anyway...Tires are in good shape, reg just paid as well. I used to haul my MR2 on it so it should hold 2k with no problem. It does not have electric brakes, and I doubt you will find one that does.

Reason for me getting rid of it is I have the need for a longer dual axle car hauler.

Leep

Haha. Time to buy the smittybilt adventure trailer dude. Got a fridge generator stove 50l water tank. It will match your jk.
FYI any trailer over 1500 lbs requires trailer brakes. If you have trailer brakes it's mandatory in CA to have a break away system that can hold the electric brakes for 15 min. Avg electric brake takes about 3 amps to power each brake.
