WTB: RENIX COMPUTER

RENIX ECU failures tend to be agreeably rare - and usually come back to blown injector drivers. How have you diagnosed your ECU failure?

If you're electronically inclined, Mr_W had a thread going where he determined a replacement for the RENIX fuel injector driver transistor, you may want to look into that if that's where you're having your problem...

(Failing that, I'd like to talk you out of your old one if you do end up replacing it...)

The ol renix was running like junk, and lean aswell. It would miss, backfire, and sputter at around 2200-2400 RPM. It seemed like it wasn't getting enough fuel. Had my mechanic check the fuel pump, and timing etc... he said it was starving for fuel, and beleives its the Computer.

Have you checked you O2 sensor, Map Senor and all your other connections?

After swapping my engine I was having the same as you described and it was a MAP and O2 that caused it.

HEGO, MAP, IAT, CTS, and TPS can all also cause fuel mix trouble - either as input signals for fuel metering, or as trim signals for engine loading. Don't forget to check those as well (typically simple ohmmeter checks - and I know you said you just replaced the HEGO, but don't tell me you've never had a box-defective part...)

Also, a cracked exhaust can lead to a "false LEAN" condition, well before the leak gets big enough for you to hear.

As I said, RENIX ECU failures are agreeably rare - and the four that I've heard of are blown injector drivers (I have three of them - one came form South Africa. I was going to sort out a repair, but Mr_W beat me to it - he's in Czechoslovakia...)

The "flyer" here will be testing the TPS - while you can adjust it with a digital ohmmeter, you'll need an analogue ohmmeter to do a function test on the thing - I've covered it here before. It's a simple test, and it's possible for it to be adjusted properly, to show proper adjustment, and still be faulty.

also check to make sure the EGR valve is not stuck open or the vacum lines are properly routed. it could be open at the wrong time or maybe not opening at all. when the gr is open the computer compensates and leans out the fuel . the egr is part of the fuel equation. i will look for my ecm as soon as i get home. been staying at the girl friends.

I have a spare too that we can plug in to test. What city are you in?
