im looking for a cb radio for the heep. nothing fancy, just to communicate while wheeling. i'd prefer something close to escondido since they're not very expensive in the first place.
Thanks!

nothing really in north county at the moment. no sense in driving 40 miles round trip to save $20 over a new one down the street i figured.

i have a few of the cheaper ones sitting in the shop. i think there is a uniden and a couple radio shack ones. no boxes, but they are new. is $20 worth the drive up?

Amazon sells them in the $30 dollar range if you are looking for a cheapie.

I bought a refurbed' Midland years ago at Fry's for $15.99. It looked as good as new and works flawlessly for what it is. Fry's is close.

i ended up getting the uniden pro520xl from fry's for 40 bucks or so. seemed like the best bang for the buck. Now to figure out a good place to mount the antenna... anyone think a 4 foot one would work ok if mounted inside the jeep, provided it's grounded? cant think of a much better place to mount it without interfering with the rear hatch or putting it in a place where it'll rip off.

stereo antennas can be mounted inside the vehicle and work ok, not CB antennas. as mentioned, middle of the roof will work best, but can be in the way if you run a roof rack. there are antenna springs (wired through the center) with various tension that will allow the antenna to bend down if hit. some of the old guys still mount the long steel antennas on the pass rear corner (heavy spring) and bend it down to a strap on the windshield piller. this works well and when extra signal strength is needed you just release the strap.

also use a good antenna cable and google (CB tuning). i have a couple meters if you want to borrow one. and NEVER key the Mic without the unit being hooked to an antenna. it can/will ruin the unit.

thanks for the tips!
i guess the roof it is. i got a 4 foot stainless one from fry's, it was like $32. came with the cable. i'm not really looking for optimal performance, just trying to avoid getting out of the jeep all the time when i need to talk to my buddy 2 trucks in front of me. i guess this is a good excuse to pull my headliner down and replace the fabric that fell off.

There's a guy over at cherokeeforum that makes tail light mounts. Pass. or driver. ALl hardware included I think.

i have a machine shop so i coul make any mount i want, but that just seems like it's looking to get ripped off. at this point i'm leaning towards front bumper. i just dont want to drill a hole through my roof and have to take down the headliner at his point.
