Ok so my cousin is looking for a 97-01 stock(ish) 4 door 4x4 XJ with all the basic creature comforts of automatic transmission, power windows, power locks, and power mirrors. He is looking for one with no more than 150,000 miles in fairly good condition meaning no major body damage or missing body parts. No ripped seats or bad stains. Sound system condition doesn't matter because he is going to replace everything. It also has to be running and no major issues. If it has the normal leaking rear main seal, bad motor mounts, bad transmission mounts, or even worn u-joints then that is fine. But no bad trans, t-case, motor, cracked head, etc. Here is the hard part though he only has $3,000 to spend at most. I know, hard to get a decent jeep in those years for that price but figured I would put it out there for anyone that has a decent Jeep to part with since some of us have multiple Jeeps or for anyone who knows of a decent one for sale somewhere. He definately said he wants something stock or close to it because he wants to build it himself which I think we can all certainly respect. As the saying goes real Jeeps are built not bought. Thanks in advance for any help guys.

3000 is definitely enough, especially since hes willing to replace parts that can be used to talk the price down. Craigslist is your friend. :)

I have been all over craigslist and it seems like there just isn't much out there like there used to be. I personally blame that whole cash for clunkers crap that to me was and epic failure since so many good cars, trucks, and SUVs were destroyed and absolutely wasted. I youtubed videos of perfectly fine Jeeps being ruined and it made my blood boil to watch. My brother is also looking for a small older SUV and it has been hard to find a decent one for $3000. Oh well guess I just gotta keep looking everyday until somethings pops up.

Checkout GSA auctions. Good chance you can find a sub 100,000 mile cherokee in that price range. Might have to travel to get it though....

I bought a 97 2 door, auto, 4.0, 4x4, ac, skid plates, 40,000 miles, for $4500. That was 3 years ago. A couple of months ago checked their auctions and ran across a handful of the in the 60,000 to 100,000 miles range. Might have to wait for some to come up, but you never know.....

Where can I find a GSA auction? We have been searching for a few months now in as many places as we can think of and nothing has fit what we are looking for.
