Wrangler Unlimited Pics

On the topic of DC "improvements"...

My buddy bought a Lady Liberty first year. I was over at his house and he was talking about changing the plugs in it so we popped the hood. Plugs are buried in there pretty deep under the air intake plumping and such. :thumbdn: I know I wasn't anxious to deal with that mess in there. Looks like just a simple plug chage required a can opener. I'd hate to have to get inside that hood on the trail, it'd take disassembling half the thing just to get to whatever broke.

When I test drove the KJ that was a major point of interest for me, maintenance, otherwise it was not all that horrible for a DD, they moved all the cargo space into the headroom area so you can wear cowboy hats :D

The unlimited may get turned into a 4 door, read somewhere that the unlimited is jeeps attempt to get the 2dr XJ buyers back which are generally young and single and want something a bit more sporty. They really screwed the pooch when they came out with the KJ though. I think they were so successful with the prowler and PT cruiser that the KJ design team got away with too much and no one had the cajones to say 'no' to certain things. To me that GM truck commercial is very apt, the one where they stretech out a 2 door PU into a 4 door by stretching it on a tree, only in the KJ's case they put it in reverse :D

Also, that new IFS design is garbage. It can't handle nearly the abuse an XJ SFA suspension can. I did hear that they are redesigning the front end for '05 or '06 to make it stronger. I have seen a few modded KJs that flexed pretty well and impressed me, but only a few and they had to fabricate most of their parts. You hit the nai on the head when you said they "screwed the pooch" on the Liberty. I know this is a subject that has been beat to death, but there is no way I could ever see myself in a Liberty--they look way to cute like a RAV4 or something.

I do like the Wrangler unlimited and I think it would look sweet lifted with 33's on it.

I can't picture what it would look like as a 4 door though, I guess it would be a hard top. :dunno:

That was one of my major issues with D-Cs claim that the KJ has more cargo volume than the XJ; I've rarely filled my XJ to the ceiling with junk, but regularly make use of the interior floorspace up to the windows. Can you even FIT an XJ D44 in the rear of a Libby?

Back on topic...TJ Unlimited looks great from an aesthetic viewpoint, but my wallet is choking on the thought of making payments again so I'll leave that aspect up to someone else...

if Sequoia was able to stuff a D44 into a neon it better be stuffable into a libby :D
Just wondering, because diagonally in the rear of my XJ the D44 barely fit. It would be a really tight fit in a Libby...I don't even want to think about my back screaming at trying to load/unload that in a Neon! :D

I think he brought home two of them like that LOL :D Oh and diagonally we fit another one into my XJ with the WHEEL still on as the nut was stripped (The cap that is). SOunds like yours might be the "smaller" cargo cappacity version of the XJ :D

If you pull the rear set bottom on the XJ it'll fit fine, no need for diaganol..

As for the Libby..dunno..can you remove the rear seat and/or seat bottom?

Neon...well let's just say that you get a lot of funny looks, especially when there's a 30" Goodyear GSA sticking out of the trunk (yes, another one with a bad lug nut).

Well, I did have the rear seat flipped forward so that ate up some of my space. The cargo box in the rear didn't help much either. Now just need to find time to refresh and install the axle.

Funny looks in a Neon with a 30" tire? Can't see why that would be... Heh-heh

In a way it's a 'good thing' that I don't have a place for real projects otherwise there'd be a bunch of neons on CJ and YJ frames running around on 33's just for the fun of it.... Ever since I saw a caddy eldo on GMC frame with 38's, saw it one car in front of me and figured it was on a lowboy, then he made a left turn and the uhaul in front that I thought the lowboy was attached to went straight ahead...cool....

They already built the Treo. I have one. See?

I went to my local Jeep Stealership yesterday to take a look at the TJ Unlimited first hand. All I can say is SWWWEEEETTTT!!! The one I saw had a hard top on it, I would have liked to see it with a soft top, but they were on order. A few things of note: The rear cargo area behind the rear seat has an added 13" and the rear passenger area is an extra 2", (doesn't sound like much, but damn what a difference in space). The Unlimited only comes in an automatic, with plans for the manual to come out late in the year. As far as price, it was very reasonable. Considering the TJ Sport that sat next to it was $24K, the Unlimited was around $26K, very reasonable in my book.

Why should it cost anymore than a standard, all it has is a bit more metal in it :D . What trim package level do they have in it, SE, X, Sport, Sahara or Rubicon or does it have it's own 'unlimited' package of some sort ??

Unlimited is defineatly a step in the right direction. TJ is a solid platform and the mainstay design of Jeeps. Congrats to DC on getting this one right. Now, if they'd only build the truck version!! I'd refinance my house to get my hands on one of those. Rescue concept is cool too but I'm not sure I'd refi to get one :D As for the Treo, I don't know WTF they're thinking.

I called my local Jeep dealer and asked if they had any Unlimiteds. I just want to see one in person. He said they had three, but two are already sold. He said that they have a few more inches of rear leg room and double the cargo area. He also told me that they are only available in an automatic and he hasn't heard anything about when the 5-speed will be available. I was interested in them but if they are only going to be autos forget it.

I was at the Jeep dealer today picking up a thermostat and they had two Wrangler Unlimiteds. One just had a 5" lift (3" body and 2" suspension) and Procomp 35's put on it. It looked really good. I don't know how much they were asking for that one though, probably to total rip off, it was not done yet, they were still working on it. It had a hard top too, the hard top looks a lot better than the soft top, the soft top looks kinda strange. They all have dana 44 rear ends and are only available with the 4.0L and the new 4 speed auto. My local dealership is pretty cool and I bullshit with them a lot and they told me they can't keep them in stock.

I think that if the Unlimited sells well we will see 1/2 cabs to turn them into a Scrambler type vehical. It would not surprise me if Besttop was not working on it already! I'd love to have one and then get a 1/2 top for it! Rear seat pops out easy! I would assume that a 1/2 top and headboard could be made easly.
