wrangler spare tire mount on stock cherokee bumper

I was just thinking about how im going to mount a bigger spare tire and i thought about using a stock wrangler spare tire mount on my xj but i have no idea if it will work or if i can modify it to work with my stock rear bumper. let me know if yall have ever herd of this or done this or if i should just fab my own thanks :spin1:

I'd look into fabbing something better-- if for no other reason, you're gonna have a really heavy hatch to open if it's mounted on it or a complete PITA to dismount everything to open the hatch. Mounted to the bumper would decrease exit angle something fierce.

i have mine mounted pretty low and my hitch still hits before my tire hits...only maybe 2-4 inches but it still hits before my tire =) best of all, my jeep rides alot smoother because it's back there.

you dont HAVE to go the detours route... i spent less than 50 bucks in materials and made this swing away, my base platform was off the sides of my hitch and used the 2 bolts on the bottom of the stock bumper to help support the up down movement. i think it came out really well.

Also take a look at what all you get with the tailbone system. There is a lot of reinforcement panels and steel tubing hidden behind the stock bumper shell. You get pull points too and it sits above the rear bumper shell not below it, giving you a great departure angle.

And he moved his business to the south east, I think he is in Kentucky now if I'm not mistaken.

I'm running his slider/stiffeners and I have landed extremely hard on both of them with no issues. I had his Backbone until I went with a winch bumper instead. The Backbone was a great unit as well.

well if i had the cash i would go ahead and get the tailbone system but i dont lol but i was also thinking about running a piece of steel behind the bumper and bolting it to the rear bumper brackets then bolting the actual spare tire mount through the bumper into the piece of steel so it is flush with the bumper to give me the deparcher angle i want
