Worn tires on front or rear?

On the rear. On the rear. On the rear.

For many of the reasons I've already seen given and one reason I didn't see listed is that there's already more weight on the front which adds to traction.

Putting the more worn tires on the rear where there is less weight is a double whammy.
 
I'd put the newer tires on the rear. As far as blowout concerns if the tire is that low then it should not be on the road. Tires just don't wear out overnight. This is one of those things that wear out over time. During this time you should be planning ahead to buy new tires again.
