Wiring harness

anyone know of an aftermarket wiring harness for the Cherokee?

I thought Hesco had a kit, but I just emailed him and he said their wiring kit is only for the CJ with the MPI conversion kit and it won't support standard equipment on an XJ.

I looked through the Painless site and couldn't find anything there either? any ideas?

About 3 years ago I had an engine fire. I replaced the wiring harness, but I had to splice in a large part of the sensor connectors from my old harness to match the correct connectors.

About a year ago I did a complete engine rebuild. Since the rebuild there has been a vibration, you can see "diagnosing engine vibration" in the OEM thread.

I'm now pretty much down to something not getting the correct signal, i.e., crimp gone bad or stretched apart during engine removal/install. Or it's a tranny issue, right after the engine swap I started leaking fluid from the front of the tranny.

I'm already yanking the tranny so I can pull the pump and replace the pump seal and the front shaft seal, and possibly replace the torque converter (don't know what abuse the first owner put it through, but he beat the rest of the Jeep to poop...and I ran seafoam tranny treatment through it and thinking maybe something caused a clog....plus it's got 220,000 miles...about time for a refresh).

So if all else fails, I'm down to tracking down a short in an electrical system that has already been hacked apart once....would be easier to just put in a new one. If there is an aftermarket one for about $300 that I could completely wire myself, it would be worth it to me...if not, and I can find a complete drop in OEM harness that will do, but I don't need to just swap one hack and crimp job for another, nor do I want to pull all the connectors and properly solder and shrink wrap them, as it will likely require pulling the whole harness from the Jeep to do it properly anyway.

EDIT: Oops, 1994 Jeep Cherokee Country 4.0 Automatic Transmission

I know of NO aftermarket harnesses for XJs.

Go to car-parts.com, search year-make-model for a harness.

I believe the 91-95 would work in your 94.

I'm pretty sure a 95 won't work in a 94, since one is GM column and the other is Chrysler. Unless you don't care about your cruise no longer working. There are also a lot of sensor year changes in that era.

I would aim for a 93/94. 91/92/maybe 93 (I forget) will have a fuel pump ballast resistor, though you can just bypass that easily enough. 91/92/maybe 93 (I forget) will also have a 2 wire vehicle speed sensor connector for a reed switch sensor instead of a 3 wire for a hall effect.

Well, I've already pulled the A/C and the cruise control system from the Jeep if that matters. speed sensor could be important though....maybe I will just yank the system from my Jeep and pull all the crimped connectors and solder and shrink them properly instead.

If you get the ECU and the vehicle speed sensor from the harness donor vehicle, it becomes irrelevant. Just bolt them in too and you are fine.

Also grab all the sensors and crap from it (or at least take pictures of your sensor connectors to the JY with you when you pull it so you can compare) because that way you'll either have spares, or sensors that plug into the harness you get.
