Man, it's a shame that you guys aren't open to better wheeling to go with the camping.
As for us, we'll be there even if it were being held in Canada.
We're not afraid of change.
It's not like we have some secret event that nobody can come to.
What's wrong with having an event with actual GOOD wheeling?
Maybe we should have a MWXJ Winterfest for the 5 whiners that will just die if they don't go to Attica and a NAXJA Winterfest for everyone else that wants to get some good FREE wheeling with their campfire fun.
You don't even have to take showers, even though there is a shower house at the CG.
I guess it depends what you go for.
Every other naxja event is centered around the actual wheeling, you know, the reason we all own jeeps.
That's why they have them in places that actually have good wheeling; Moab, Paragon, Tellico for instance.
BTW, we do have places like that in the MW for those that care to go there.
Apparently WF isn't about wheeling to some here.
Tell you what. I'm centrally located. I have a big back yard. You can all show up at my house next February, pitch your tents, and make a fire.
Hell, I'll even turn off the hot water for a true WF experience.

Let me know how it goes.
I'll be out wheeling.
Somewhere south of Attica.

To both you knuckle heads, have winterfest where ever you want. If it's more than a 5 hour drive I'm just not interested in doing it. Never said you can't have it in Florida if you would like, just saying I won't make it, for the first time ever, and wanted to make sure that was known. Maybe that alone is enough reason to move Winterfest and if it is so be it.

I likely have done more "real" wheeling in more "real" places than either of you combined. You know, places like Daniel Boone NF, Tellico TN, Moab, Colorado, The pipeline in WI, and yes Attica.

I have an idea, let’s have Winterfest in Mexico for the 2 :rattle: who think they know the best places in the world to wheel (Don't recall either of you being at a Winterfest prior to last year, but I could be wrong). I have another idea, if you don't like wheeling at Attica, don't come! We've had Winterfests without you before and they were a blast. Believe it or not I'm sure we could pull off WF without you. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying you shouldn't come or even that I don't want you to come but why isn't Attica good enough for WF. You say your not a wheeling snob but that Attica is not worthy of "real" wheeling status. I guess you just don't get the point of Winterfest, which makes it really funny that you guys are planning it. I'll be the first to agree that Attica is a bit tiresome but it is very centrally located and I'm sure much better than Brad's back yard. I could think of many much better places to wheel, many of which I have and do, but not many I could swing for a quick weekend of suffering and fun.

I guess, "It's a Jeep thing, and you definitely don't understand!"

This isn't any other NAXJA event! As far as I know they haven't changed the location for any other NAXJA events.

Where are they, I'd be happy to make it to some or all of them.

That's exactly what it's about, but not "only" what it's about. It also isn't about driving 12 hours from most Midwest locations just to wheel for the weekend.

Never said that. Just not open to wheeling 10 hours from home for a weekend. Sorry, I spend all of my vacation time Wheeling out west, you know where the real wheeling takes place.

Oh and BTW, I am planning to come to OK to wheel in the near future. Just not for Winterfest, sorry.

So, and check me if I'm wrong here, you're saying, you'll drive the 10 hrs for a weekend of wheeling in OK in the near future. But you won't drive 10 hrs for a weekend of wheeling in OK for WF.
I guess you're right, I don't "get it"

Bob, I don't think you understand what I'm getting at, and tried to do last year.
From what I've seen, Clayton may be worthy of being a "real" wheeling destination.
You know, the kind we take vacation days to drive to.
Like NACfest, Coloradofest, Fall flog, and Moab
Why would you be against our (MWC) event being in that league?
Plan a couple days at Attica whenever you want, hell we do it all year without it having to be an "event"

Think about it. Why do you feel WF is unworthy of your vacation days?
Because, in it's present form, it's not. I agree.
I was hoping to change that.

oh the drama!!!

I would like to see the location change, mostly because you can only do so much at the badlands. The trails don't change a whole lot, it's a small park and since it's the MWC only "official" event, I think we should step up the wheeling part a notch, I think it'd be cool to draw in a larger nat'l crowd. I sure as hell wouldn't drive 10+ hrs to wheel at the badlands if I lived that far away. I understand where Terry is coming from.

I think we are spinning our wheels through, we're gonna go through the same bs as last year, wanting it to be held somewhere "better" and perhaps farther away. Since this probably isn't likely, I think we need to get over the idea and focus on creating another MWC staple event some other time in the year, somewhere other than the badlands. There are so many places to go in the MW, the catch is you may have to drive 6-10+ hours to wheel for the weekend, I did it a month ago, and it was so worth it! It was the best wheeling I have ever done in my limited experience.

winterfest is what it is, leave it alone, fawk it. To the people who are willing to travel a bit for a change of scenery, let's do it and plan another event.

Alright, some REAL dialog, without name calling even!

When I make the trip down to OK it will be for more than just a weekend. I have a sister that lives a stones throw from Disney so it will be a visit and wheeling thing.

Where is Clayton?

Really I'm not opposed to the idea of WF being somewhere else but it needs to be centerally located which makes the pikins slim. I know there is supposed to be a cool new place in MN but it makes it a really tough spot for people in the "southern" MW and also for those east of the lake. Another thing is I really like to reserve my wheeling vacations for "serious" wheeling and that is mostly out west at this point. Winterfest is to me, a weekend in the dead of winter to get me off my butt and wheel. If it's a week I take a vacation for it's just not the same. It's always been something I can make even after using all my vacation for wheeling out west (or in the past out east in Tellico). If I use vacation to attend Winterfest I would have to give up a vacation out west and I don't think I would want to do that at this point.

The thing is, you don't need to plan WF around me. I'm not about that. But, you should consider the logistics and desires of the people who want to attend. I don't think we've ever had a problem getting people to show up for WF. Maybe a good idea would be to come up with some potential locations, list their features and see what is most popular with potential attendies.

In reality the MW covers a huge area and we should definitely work on branching out and having some more events. I think you guys did Sweatfest in OK this year. That's great, if the wheeling is good make it an annual event. I plan to take a weekend and go up to MN some time with a guy at work. If that's as good as I've been hearing that would be another good place for an event.

BTW, thanks for talking about it, this beats the heck out of name calling.

Man i didnt think my original post would get this much reaction.

I guess my take on it is the same as Bloose. BL is close enough to me that i can make a weekend trip out of it instead of taking vacation days. Winter wheelin for me has always been less about hardcore stuff than it is just to get out and have some fun while i wait for warmer months.

What about the earlier suggestion someone made about have and East and West WF?

OK, Here is my take on this.
Winter Fest is about a bunch of friends (old ones, new ones and ones we haven't met yet) getting together to have a good time.
We 'wheel during the day and sit around the fire at night.
Last years Winter Fest was the first time it was an official Chapter event, we wanted to make a big deal because the chapter was new.
In the past years, there was no raffle, no dinner, no T-shirts, there wasn't even a sticker untill 2004.

We tried to change WF last year to a new location, the only reason it was not moved was because not enough MEMBERS from NAXJA new the trails well enough to lead. That is the ONLY reason it was not moved.

Now I will tell you guys my opinion, this is only my opinion.
Winter Fest should stay in Attica.
The Fall Fling is always in Moab, NAC Fest is always at Paragon, the Cherokee crawl is always at Tellico, Get it?

I think it would be grand if we started another event, or tow, or three, somewhere else.
Somewhere in another location, closer to other members of the MWC.

Our Chapter is HUGE.
I will be split someday, it will have to be, as we grow.
How do we grow?
More "local" events.
I see no reason we can't have an event up in Gilbert, MN; one in Disney, OK; another at Land Between the Lakes KY or even Wellsville, OH.
And that is not half of the places we have availible to us in the Midwest.
See all of the possibilities we have here!

We need more people to post up "unofficial" events so we can check these places out.

I would LOVE to wheel some more places, but I can not take off work in the summer, and like everyone else, I can only take off so much time.
But there are enough of us that we could have an "unofficial" event every month, at a different location!

In stead of complaining about where an event is held, why don't we post up a run like Okie did last summer.
Don't be discuraged if only a few people show up the first year, it will grow as word gets out.

That is my State of the Chapter speach for now.

Now back to our regular schedualed Asshatery.
Carry on....

Asshattery has 2 T's.

I don't care what we do. All I know is that I'm bored with the Badlands (Attica.) Rockport is fairly centrally located given the population south of Chicagoland.

Very well said Sean. Ya know, if you hum "oh Beautiful" while reading that it kinda gets to you. I picture Sean at the podium with a big MWC logo behind him.I'm not opposed to a new venue. For me, it boils down to $$. BL is closest for me. Wheel on people. No big deal really, just giving my two pennys. If it is decided to be moved, if there is enough intrest, maybe a group can go to BL's the same weekend. I've haven't been around as long as most of you, and probably still considered a noob, and I don't have a problem with that. I realize my opinion may not weigh as much as some, but it's still an opinion.

OFF TOPIC: Sean mentioned other informal runs. There will be a run to Redbird SRA in Dugger, IN taking place before too long.

can we feel the love here.:kissyou:

I would have to say that Sean's statement said it well. We need more trail rides set up to give some new places a try. I haven't been a member for long so I don't think that my opinion will go very far. As far as WF goes, money and time are a factor for me so the closer the better.
I won't drive my junk to any of these locations so getting a trailer and tow rig and paying for everything limits what I can do.
I have yet to drive my heep at the Badlands so I wouldn't mind going there again. To me, the campfire is the best time of the weekend. Getting to know some new people and seeing others again is great for me. Don't get me wrong, I love to wheel but making friendships is also a good time to me.
So wherever this ends up I will try to make it there.

Kim.

Trail Work at the Badlands

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have just started re-marking and rebuilding all of the trails at the Badlands. The goal is to change the trails that everyone has run over and over again, and to re-mark all of the trails to make them easier to follow. So far orange trail is almost done, and there are some impressive changes. The trail is in the same area as before, but a long section of the trail has been covered with rocks. The rock section should be pretty challenging for a vehicle on 35's locked front and rear. All of the rocks can be bypassed. Also, in a few weeks pink trail will finally be well marked and easy to follow.
