Windshield washer fluid

Ok, I know most people don't care or use whatever but I am picky. I used the prestone BugWash concentrate fluid for a long time. It apparently is no longer made of course.

I've had bad luck with the Rain-X, generic walmart brand and the prestone pre-mixed fluid. They would always leave nasty residue on the edges of the glass and on any painted surface. The BugWash mixed with distilled water has always cleaned my windshield and left no residue at all and was cheap and easy to store being a tiny bottle.

Can anyone recommend a windshield washer fluid that does the job?

50% distilled water, 50% white vinegar. In winter time substitute 10% rubbing alcohol for part of the distilled water to keep it from freezing. Add a few drops of food coloring if you're worried about getting it mixed up with your distilled water in your garage. I've used this recipe for years in Montana, never had an issue (summer or winter).

Prestone Bug Wash.. try NAPA. Sold some today.

Right now I've been getting Mr. Clean branded bug wash. The pink stuff I used to get isn't around local anymore. IN the winter I use the same thing since it doesn't freeze at 60.

I've never tried home brewing washer fluid since I don't leave in a small cabin in Montana. :gag:

I ran the Prestone DeIcer this winter. Says it provides freeze protection to -34*. Also says they actually test it at 5*. In practice, it froze around 15* to 20*. RainX Bug Remover in the summer, because it removes bugs, and smells pretty.

Prestone website says try the Auto Barn in AZ.

Yea but if you look at the autobarn site you see they have no locations in Az and look to be a NY only store?

My local napa only sells their brand of washer fluid and said they can try to order prestone in the gallon bottle. Which is funny they have to order it because in the napa sales ad they have the gallon of prestone fluid on sale...

I'm not worried about de-icing ability as I've never actually driven in the snow before even ha.

I will try oreilys but I looked before and they did not have it then.

Be sure to open that package I mailed you when no one else is around. :explosion:fuse:

Edit: Jerk.

I just stopped by the local oreilys and they had nadda, just again the generic store brand of fluid. I emailed prestone and they actually replied asking what city/state I lived in, maybe they can tell me a local store ha. They did assure me it is still being made and were not sure why I would have a hard time finding it.

i just wipe the windshield down when i refuel with the squeegie if its dirty enough to bother me.

water will get the mud off when wheeling

I work at a GM dealer, so a mix of their Opticlean + distilled water. Not sure how much they charge, but you can buy the bottles from the dealer.
