Windows leak under Pressure washer.

So I have the usual rust/wet carpet issues on the passengers side. I tried searching but didn't dig up much.

Every time I take the Jeep to the car wash and spray the windows water always makes it way through the top of the window and down the inside (Sometimes even making it a good 6-8" onto the dash or seats). All 6 windows leak (2 back seat windows, 2 front seat, and the 2 little triangle ones.) Should I just take it to a auto glass place and have them seal everything up? I also noticed that with any window up or down I can place my hand on it and shift it around. Ideas on this?

welcome to owning an xj

my 1990 xj does the same thing in the rear window and both the front doors. From my understanding it is because after so many years of use the door hinges will start to sag like any car but jeep decided to weld the door hinges on so you cant just loosen a couple of bolts and realign the door. You can either have new weather stripping put on the doors or if you or know somebody that you know can weld decently you can realign them yourself. The rear glass weather stripping just needs to be replaced, I wasnt aware that my was bad until I came to stop at the house and the glass fell off my jeep into the grass

Here's an idea...don't go to the car wash anymore. I did that once with my '89 XJ with a sunroof i might add, $7 for a good wash was less then I pay to powerwash the mud off at a cleaner and drive home to wash it...well I had water coming in from all angles and once I hit the dryer it sounded like a plane was taking off...I was holding onto my sunroof for dear life hoping it wouldn't blow off.

I replaced window and door seals on my 96 and 94 XJ's. Cost me about $290 dollars for one Jeep. I also realigned the doors. I can go through the automatic carwashes with no leaks for now. LOL

You WASH your Jeep? Doesn't it shrink or something like that.
Other then replacing the seals you could place a rag on the top of the glass before rolling them up. That may seal it.

LOL You guys are killing me. My jeep gets dirty quite often. I just like to make it look descent once in a while.:D

I've had the Jeep for about a year and a half now so I'm used to it. I just wondered if replacing the seals and weather stripping would help. It's guess it's simply a jeep thing.:yelclap:

Thanks

Do you have contact info for where you bought your seals? I have a 2-door and I'm going to buy a pair of back windows with the vents and will need new seals.

Door gaskets can be had at the salvage yard. The '96 up are much thicker and retro fit to the earlier ones. If you mount the extra upper gasket, you may kill some of the extra wind whistle.

Window gaskets, etc can be had from Quadratech IIRC, and probably others.

Hi pressure car washers can be more trouble than most think. Many run up to 1500 psi - and there is little on a car that will withstand that. Cars are designed to be splashproof at best, rarely immersion resistant, and good luck past garden hose pressure - 40 psi.

It's like water resistant watches good for a shower vs. a diver's watch certified to 300 feet. Cars aren't overbuilt.

All 4 door seals for $80. Go to page one on that link, 5th item down is 'door wipes' or 'window wipes' and they go for $150 for the set. I think they(maybe HF) have a tool for getting your old wipes off too.
