Wow, I apparently have the exception to the rule.
2000 Expedition 2WD 5.4L.....NEVER had an engine problem. EVER. Transmission leak, yeah, ball joints, yeah, engine, no. Will even smoke a little on the 275/60-17s if you put the foot down. And towed my boat, dad's boat, 32ft camper, and little bro's 69 F100 without breaking a sweat. Always had regular maint. and I can consistently get 18mpg/22mpg city/hwy with it. Little bro has it now and still has no trouble. Since the 4.6L and 5.4L are modular, where are the 4.6L issues?
My brother-in-law just bought a Tacoma, and loves it. In fact, if I didnt' have 2 vehicles, one a truck, I'd buy one. It's a 4x4 auto, and it moves right along towing his 21ft boat.
