Will disabled ABS throw a Check Engine light?

I spoke with the emissions testing place in Phoenix and they do not check the ABS system when testing vehicles. I know if I disable the ABS it will give an ABS light but will it also give a check engine light? A little background; I want to convert to rear discs on my 99 Cherokee but I have a D35 with ABS. I want to switch either to a better axle (for strength) and install discs or upgrade the D35 and put disc brakes of a ZJ on it. Did they even make a D35 that has rear ABS disc brakes on it? I just really want to know if anyone that has disabled the ABS, does it throw an engine light as well as the ABS light?

Just pull the fuse and see what happens. On my '93 all it did was kick on the ABS light but I I dont know with the newer models. I dought it will though.

on my 2000 when i switched from an ABS d35 to a non ABS 8.25 i pulled the relays/fuses from the fuse panel under the hood. I threw no codes and had no ill effects, ive been driving like this for awhile now. In all i think there were a mix of 3 total fuses and relays.

I hadnt thought of that. I will give it a try...thanks! Do you also know if they built a D35 with ABS and discs like maybe on a GC?

Do you have to pass emission testing where you are? Did they say anything about the ABS being disabled? What did you do about the ABS light in the dash?

I pulled a micro relay from under the hood to disable my ABS on my 98. Might have pulled two for that matter. That got rid of the ABS warning light. My emissions testing has never known that I have had ABS and it was removed.

Pop the cover on the PDC under the hood and there is a diagram that should tell you what controls ABS.

Yep did the same swap and thing. Also removed the ABS unit and made some lines and a tee for the front one. Remember, if you don't have the ABS hooked up, you can not purge the pumps if you let the fluid drain out of the M/C. There are very specific instructions in the FSM regarding needing a special computer to cycle the pump. Removing all of it eliminates those problems. :D

Cool. From the sounds of it I dont have to worry about them noticing at the emissions place. Now to either change out the axle or find a disc equipped donor axle for the parts.

unless abs was mandatory in a state (which it is not!) who cares what they ask, tell them to eat shat and die and mind their own business. I have disabled abs on a few gm trucks and it just says abs disabled or abs check or abs service or some similar BS. No ill effects, this was earlier 1990s gm truck abs which was not a good performing abs anyways.
