Me and a buddy are looking at doing some camping. Does anyone know of any large wilderness areas with hike-in only camping without marked sites? I have been checking the park service site and they are all marked sites and small wilderness areas, we wanna go as primitive as possible. Thanks for the help guys.

Not much 'Wilderness "in Va.
However look to "Ramsey,s Draft Wilderness" located west of Staunton on Rt 250 west. Between Augusta Co,Va. and Highland Co.WVa.
Local Forest Service in Harrisonburg or Staunton ,could be of more help..

You can have a primitive site in the Shenandoah National Forest. Plenty of good side trails off the AT/skyline drive. In fact most of the AT in Va has provisions for primitive or "stealth" sites. Please be fully prepared if you are going backcountry. If you are not familiar with backpacking, for your safety have the right knowledge, plan, gear, and health.
