You get hung up on drop brackets, not long arms.

There is no all-around perfect solution for every trail in the world. Yes, you'll hit drop brackets from time to time. And you'll hit the long arm brackets mounted under the frame rails too.
So while you are correct that long arms will act as a slider in certain situations, getting high centered on low hanging brackets by the cross member is reality too.
