who wants to help me finish my jeep?

Moab '01 Ray Pili pissed off the people in the trailer sight next to Mil's by grinding and welding on his tracbar mount at 10 PM.
Lets see how may people we can piss off in the cabin area with all the cutting, grinding and welding that will be going on !!!!
:D

Hey, if you're going to be in Moab with all them 4WD guys there you'd better be ready to put up with some wrenchin' action! :D

IS IT FRIDAY YET??????!!!!!!!!
IS IT OVER YET is the better question.
I've dipped into the kids college fund for this trip.
The girls and Mama are starting to get pissed. They hate spending their spare time collecting aluminum cans on the side of the road. :D

Charles.....

you just brought up a really great point........

I live in the city, and am used to having to worry how much noise I'm making....

when I fire up an air tool, hundreds of people can hear it....there's an unwritten, but generally understood rule about "quiet hours", and if you decide to be an inconsiderate asshole, you end up paying for it........

I don't see why we can't have a "rule" about quiet hours in the campground.......that way, the people that need to grind and pound, and the people who wanna enjoy a peaceful campfire can have an understanding before any tempers flare

maybe this can be discussed at the first drivers meeting, or on a seperate thread.....

I live in an apartment complex, with one big parking lot.

Sometimes I straight set up shop in the parking lot, tools scattered, noise, everything. You should see the looks I get :D :D

Seriously though, that is a good point Beez....... I like a peacefull campsite as much as the rest.

Come on over John, I'm gonna have quite the crew there. I'll find ya something to do.

Another take...

Does the fact that I gave up on finishing my XJ yesterday make me a quitter? I left my job a week early to finish this pile of crap and when I discovered that my Caddy calipers require some sort of intermediate bracket (that I don't have) to fit onto the Warn disc brake mounting brackets I decided F--- it, I'll just bum a ride on the trails. At least I can meet everyone and have a good camping trip, and get really good at using my new digital video camera. (I was quitting anyway because we are moving to St Louis for my wife's job when I return. She was nice enough to let me buy a Suburban if I sold both my MJ's, so hopefully that purchase will go well and I'll be able to tow someone back east if need be.)

Things I did accomplish:

replaced both axles w/ regeared, locked, Warn hubbed units
fabbed & installed chassis stiffeners
installed Clayton's long arm front suspension w/ Skyjacker 8" coils
installed modified Skyjacker 6" rear springs
installed Rock Krawler shocks
fabbed & installed home brew track-bar
fabbed & installed home brew swaybar disco's & drop brackets
installed exhaust
fabbed & installed home brew crossover steering
installed AA SYE & Tera 2-low in 231
installed both Tom Woods driveshafts

Things that needed to be done if I hadn't given up:

rear brakes installed
front brake lines re-routed
LCA mounts removed
front & rear bumpstops installed
T-case skid fabbed & installed
rear axle shimmed
track bar adjusted
front end alignment and caster adjustment

Optional items if those had been completed:

roll cage padding installed
roll cage mounts to chassis stiffeners
high-clearance shock mounts installed
rock rails fabbed & installed
CB repaired
front axle bracket reinforcements fabbed
shackle mount drop brackets fabbed & installed (to replace shims and improve shackle angle)

Beez... I was laughing at you.. but now I have to admit that when I get to Moab, after the first day I will most likely be playing musical "shocks" and bumpstops :) oh..... let the fun begin :D (in 3 days !!)

Beezil, Beezil, Beezil. Be a man and ask your Mom to do it for you. See you next week dude.

Beezil, go ahead and bring it... it'll make its way onto my jeep one of these days.

After driving 3 hours today to look at a low mileage diesel Suburban that turned out to be in the shop for repairs (replacing the fuel shutoff solenoid, which didn't inspire confidence at 84k miles,) it occurred to me that if we got a new car for my wife I could have her '01 XJ and drive that to Moab. So Friday we will be looking for something for her, and I should be able to head out early Saturday, arriving late Monday.

PS I buttoned up my XJ just to be able to move it around on the driveway... if you didn't know any better it looks like a cool monster Jeep. Just don't require use of the brake pedal though...

Beezil,

Did I read you got the Jeep pretty well together?

I'll be there Sunday around 4:00 if you still need some help.

I'm good at cursing and kicking tires. :D

See you there.

you didn't read it, stinkley musta toldya.....

yeah, I sticked some butt these past couple days, there's not much to do, but there still are other things that need to be done......

check it: no time to make a skidplate! yep.

not worried though....I have two t-cases at home.

otherwise, the jeep is mechanically almost ready, however, it remains to be seen if the design is worth a shit.

Shouldn't you be packing Mr. Hinkley.

20 hrs and counting. :)

I'm still building a Jeep.

What is packing? You mean throw everything you think you might need in the MH at the last minute. The last minute isn't until Saturday morning.

I also have to get 245 Track bars ready for PC by the end of today also.
