Who needs lockers to wheel anyhow?

Come back and talk about not needing lockers once you've wheeled the trails in BFE, or go run Pritchett...you might change your mind then :D

But I wouldn't advise even remotely attempting those trails without being locked F&R on 35's...

Im not saying to "Never get lockers under any circumstance". Im saying to only get them IF you NEED them. Not because you want them.

And people who have never ran a locker and open/open and have no PERSONAL experience with a locker shouldn't even post. All your info comes from hear say.

lockers are one of my favorite mods to the jeep

of course some modifications make others more apparent

but lockers are probably the best money spent.

i am finding myself breaking more things now that i started a new rig build and am open/open for the time being.

I plan on doing Pritchet in the future for sure, it's on my list right after moab rim golden spike and right before behind the rocks. :) Next trip i take down there we will have one xj on 35s locked rear, one on 33's locked f/r, and mine which i at least want to try it as is. But i may have ls depending on the situation on my planns for a 8.8...

Are you saying that you have broken more things with open diffs than with locked ones??? :gee:

Get them if you want to I suppose. They will make your rig much more capable than stock.
Just dont get them for the wrong reasons...

What do you consider wrong reasons? Getting them in a mall crawler? If so then no don't waste money on lockers. If you wheel your rig I don't believe there are any "WRONG" reasons. I only have my rear locked. It has been beneficial on all trails. Just because you have lockers doesn't mean you are invincible, I still get stuck.

I would say that many fellow Jeepers get sucked into a sort of snowball effect when they start to upgrade.
A lift means bigger tires, then you get a bigger lift, more tires, a bumper.... On and on.

Hey thats fine, I love modding my Jeep. I love the look of lifted Jeeps. I love taking it out on trails.

Just dont get soo far into Jeeping that it spends all your income.

"Jeep responsibly" ?

How many people here went bankrupt by spending some money on their jeep? If that happens then I'm sorry you are truly retarted. Only spend money that you can "AFFORD" to spend, build your jeep very slowly if you have too. BTW my rear locker was completely free. Thank you welding skills.:smoker:

I only buy stuff for my jeep when I can't afford it if it's absolutely necessary to get me to/from work - and even then, I haven't had to dip into savings yet. The worst was the thousand dollars of parts and tools I needed to get some accident damage repaired last winter after my brake line exploded, but even so, $300 of that was sorely needed tools that I have used at least once a week since then (well, except for the HVLP spraygun set I guess.) ALL optional stuff - lift parts, bigger axles, etc is from my disposable income and I'm keeping it that way.

.. thus, no lockers for the next six months at least (longer if I end up buying a house after all) and it's staying the same height it is now, with the same size tires. I *might* do 33s if I can find a really, REALLY dirt cheap set on the classifieds here that brings cost of tires + upgrading to handle 33s below the cost of a set of 32s, but I do not see that happening.

In my area I see decent sets of 33's go for pretty decent prices. Or maybe I'm always just in the right place at the right time. I think I have 250 into my wheels and tires. Craiger soft 8's, and 33x12.50 firestone destination mt's.

Yeah, I have $150 in my current tires, and if I really end up running short on time I have a set of good stock sized tires on aluminum rims with less than 2k miles on them that I picked up for $250 right before my current set. I figure I can play the waiting game for as long as it takes :)

I hear ya, I have had no income in the last 6 weeks. That is just life, when I finally get my pay (should be any day) I am probably going to build custom Y links, order 1 ton steering, and get a lunch box locker in the front. Sucks waiting for checks.

Relax, have a drink.

Im not saying that owning an XJ will send you to chapter seven. But jeep parts do get pricey, especially for a student like myself...

That's all a reference to what you want. I've spent money on my rig to the point where I could have bought 3 newer very nice XJ's...and I'm a student. I'm turning my XJ into a buggy and have FAR more money into my Jeep than I'de like to disclose as to some they find no sense in it. I work 15-20 hours a week while being a full time engineering student and it pays for the build. Its taken me 2+ years to get 80% of my parts...but in the end it gives me something to look forward to and in all seriousness keeps me sane.

My sanity is worth a lot of money :D
