So I get off work, and my Jeep won't crank.:bawl:
I have power and no check engine light, but it doesn't even try to start. In reverse the lights come on. I was still thinking it was the NSS. I pulled the NSS and opened it up and it seemed the spring were a bit gummed up with the yellow goo, but the contacts seemed pretty clean. I cleaned it with crc electronics cleaner and put a bit of Dielectric grease in there, and reinstalled the assembly. still no joy.

Any ideas? Thanks

put it in N to start it. If that doesn't work, make sure the battery is fully charged. Mymoney is on the battery being dead. all the lights will work with a mostly dead battery. How is the fluid level inside the battery

You could try hitting the starter with a hammer if all else fails. I just had to hit the starter on my wife's jeep to get it to start. Time to clean it or replace it on hers

I tried N, no good. I figured the battery was fine because the gauge seems strong and all accessories seem strong usually on a dead battery there is a noticeable loss of power. But I'll check it out when I go to work tomorrow anyway. Jeep's still in the parking lot. my money is on a drained/dead battery

If it was the starter shouldn't I at least hear it try to start? When I turn the key NOTHING happens under the hood. But I'll try that too. At least I get to hit something with a hammer .

put it on a legit charger and then test it will a real amperage tester. Otherwise, its NSS, or CPS, ignition switch . Verify that the starter solenoid is not fubar. or rats ate some wires somewhere.

Don't just hit the starter, hit the solonoid on the side of it.

A bad cps will still allow it to crank. Just won't get fuel or spark.

No check engine light at all ever when you turn the key to run?

We diagnosed my 94 4.0L as a bad computer because the check engine light was not coming on at all.

Swapped in a spare and it fired right up.

check engine light comes on normally when I first turn the key, then turns off as it should.

Thats what I was thinking as well from what I've read

Im not sure of the year yours is. But isnt their a fusable link in the system? Maybe a faulty relay.

I had a bad relay when i first bought my jeep it would cold start fine. But if it was warm and you tried to restart it wouldnt.
