Where to buy????

Hi everyone! :wave1:

I am in need of a long block rebuilt engine. I have an 87 XJ with the I6/4.0 that blows oil like a whale with asthma and emphysema.

I see engine rebuilders on eBay selling 4.0's for ~$1500 but none of them are local. I am wondering if there is anyone in town that is reputable that sells rebuilt longblocks.

So I called Western Engine and the guy I spoke to advised me to check my plugs. If they're wet it could be an indication of too much gas being delivered and flushing the oil from the rings, thereby allowing compression preasure to blow past and build in the block causing my oil problem. Sounds credible to me so I will give my truck a good once over first. I also need to run through the FSM troubleshooting procedures and make sure all of my sensors are behaving properly. I recently had a 1600RPM idle problem and the truck takes a bit of cranking to start like the computer isn't getting the right readings from something.

I hate this ODB-I computer! It's virtually worthless! Especially when trying to diagnose a problem.

Yes I had the XJ offroad... I think the wife was about to die on Spring creek. she walked most of it.

Now my steering is all buggered though seems like my pitman arm keeps coming loose (it wiggles) but the nut is TIGHT! so maybe new pitman or steering box.. I have to get on it maybe friday night. So I can go play on saturday.

Are you talking about the pitman arm to the steering box shaft? If you are talking about the tapered TRE that goes into the pitman arm, you can get a small piece of shim stock, trim a piece, place it in the tapered hole, then reinsert the TRE and tighten it down.

no the actulal RE drop pitman arm where it connects to the steering box. I added a second washer to force the arm up more and now its loose again.

Such a pain! the pitman arm rocks 1/8 inch at the steering box shaft...= TONS of play in my steering.
